Brown is almost considered a safety at GDS.

LOL. I'm sure those 75 GU, Michigan, Tulane, Wisconsin, NYU, Tufts and WashU kids wanted nothing to do with Brown!

List looked impressive until I realized that this includes matriculation for 3 years for Classes 2015, 2016 and 2017. So divide these numbers by 3 and they don't seem nearly as impressive, as say, TJ's matriculation numbers.

That is where you are wrong. Assume that this is a single class of students rather than three year's worth. The number of students matriculated at the absolutely most competitive schools is comparable to or better than from TJ (check for yourself). The combined number of graduates from this period at roughly 360 is still smaller than a TJ graduating class at 450. Sorry, facts do not support your assertion.

I stand corrected. GDS graduates about 130 seniors per year while TJ graduates about 430. Both are fantastic schools and send kids to an impressive list of colleges. TJ parents just pay alot less...

Again, it only takes a minute of google. GDS stats are indeed for 3 years. One year of TJ:

Class of 2016
College Acceptance Data
99 percent of the Class of 2016 were accepted to and are
attending a four-year college or university. (Listing reflects
schools where ten or more students were accepted).

So what? There are a lot of kids with no ivy options outside of Cornell, who would of course go for Brown over any of their other alternatives. Is there any data showing what percentage of GDS admits at Brown actually chose to enroll? Or what other options those who actually enrolled had?

If there isn't any data to that level of detail, how can **you** make any claim?

Still, with all the snark about GDS and Harvard, sending 10 seniors to Harvard (and 9 to Yale) is pretty damn impressive. Among DC privates, GDS may actually be the Harvard feeder after all.

Our public high invariably sends 2-3 kids to Brown every year. It's popular but no one reacts the same way they do when kids get into HYPS.

Williams College (6)
Yale University (9)

Still, with all the snark about GDS and Harvard, sending 10 seniors to Harvard (and 9 to Yale) is pretty damn impressive. Among DC privates, GDS may actually be the Harvard feeder after all.

I'm confused about what these lists actually prove. Woodrow Wilson in DC has similar numbers for certain schools over the same time period. Wilson sent 8 students to Yale over the last three years - I don't see folks racing to send their kids there. When you see these lists, you have no idea how many of these students at GDS have hooks. I'm willing to bet good money a solid portion of the admits to Harvard are URM students. Many of the private schools have solid numbers of talented URM students because they've all bailed on public schools - not to mention many of them can pay. Maybe it's better to take these kinds of lists with a grain of salt?

^^actually just a correction about Wilson - 8 were accepted to Yale over the same period - 6 matriculated to Yale.

The ridiculous idea that Brown is a "safety" for GDS students when the vast majority go to lower ranked (but still excellent) schools.
