Why would they have to lower the standards? Your premise that minorities applying to Harvard are less academic vs white is not backed up by the facts.

yall are a f bunch of liberal morons. Wake the f up

lol. like you or your progeny ever stood a chance of Harvard admission anyway. Run along, the actual elites have work to do.

Haha......my daughter asked the same thing. She was hoping there was a native american great grandmother somewhere in our past.

My mom recently did a DNA test and the results showed she was majorly Hispanic. A huge surprise bc she grew up believing her ancestors were French. Maybe my DD will choose to check the Hispanic box on her college applications.

That is not what colleges care about anymore.

They are looking for '"1st generation to attend college" "s1t gen am" or "spent time is foster care" race really is useless on apps now

You still could dump your kid into the foster care system.

What planet do you live on? Race remains a major factor in admissions.

No. If 2 people have the exact same background but different race, they will be measured the same. If they had a "different" background they will be measured differently ... Like the white girl that worked as a janitor in her school.

what was your GPA and SAT? I had high enough scored for Ivy admissions. I doubt you did. So you have no dog in this fight other than your racial grievances.

I had stats high enough to get in 1500+ 4.2+ several 5s on AP test

I went to UVA I don't care I didn't go to an IVY

What I do care about is ignorance/stupidity on what really goes on in the admission process

and overall the PC and people running scared from speaking the truth.... hell I'm not even Asian

When California went race blind Asians shot up and Blacks shot down that's all you need to know

By your horrific writing style, I can tell you didn't deserve an Ivy admit. Figures you went to UVA, though.

I don't think he was ever in charge of college admissions, so there's that. Also, lol to race blind job applications. I'm so done listening to white people whine about efforts to level the playing field in a system that they rigged for centuries, and expect us to think you've done your due diligence in a single generation. Done. My mother couldn't drink at the same water fountains as some of you fools. I'm under 30. It hasn't been long enough for you to pat your selves on the back and called it square.

There is still a massive discrepancy in the quality of education and enrichment that many minority children have access to compared to your lily white snowflakes. So sorry to break it to you, but the black kid you think stole your kid's seat because he scored 100 points lower? That kid is a fighter. He ran the same race as your kid, except he had a handicap, and your kid had wheels, and in the end your kid barely beat him. Yes he deserves the spot. That black kid has the abilities coupled with a drive to change the world. He'll give back to his community and to the university. Your kid may do that same things, but white men have always had their chance. It's time for everyone else to have theirs too.

Well, I was raised by a single parent escaped an abusive arranged marriage in Korea and came to the US...worked 2 jobs despite having a master's degree, had to assimilate into US culture as an immigrant, etc. We were poor. Very poor. I grew up in a community that was 95% white and got called things like "gook". I am also dyslexic. Do I get extra points for not having "wheels"?

The idea that blacks are the only people with "handicaps" or that white men/Asians/etc. have always had their chance, or that blacks are the only "fighters" out there is just absurd.

There you go again generalizing. Many of these so called "snowflakes" come from broken homes, work several jobs and go hungry because there is no money to feed them. Whatever happened to the words "walk a mile in their shoes..." theory?

Well, the data shows that poor White kids do just fine in the Ivy admissions process. Better than higher SES Whites in fact.

Define "poor." The median family income for kids going to Harvard is $168,000, and only 4.5% have a family income in the bottom 20%. 15% of students have a family income over $630,000 per year. There just aren't that many scrappy poor kids going to Harvard, irrespective of race.

http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/1/25/harvard-income-percentile/

I think that's has a lot to do with self selection. A lot of poor families don't apply to ivy leagues

http://www.npr.org/2015/03/16/393339590/why-many-smart-low-income-students-dont-apply-to-elite-schools

True. But this was in direct response to the argument that the minority kids getting these spots have lower scores because they didn't have educational opportunities and had to deal with economic hardship. If 4.5% of ALL Harvard admits are low income, even if there were no low income white kids (and we know that's not true), the vast majority of all minority students are still middle class or better.

Are you just being willfully ignorant or are you truly this ill-informed? What do you think affirmative action does? It attempts to balance the playing field by making significant accommodations for URM applicants. A Princeton study of race and admissions found that on average colleges were giving a 250 point accommodation for black students, something like 150 for latinos and a negative 70 for asians. Try and educate yourself on a topic before spouting off your nonsense.

But again this is just using one measure - test scores. There are many other measures that factor in.

No. If 2 people have the exact same background but different race, they will be measured the same. If they had a "different" background they will be measured differently ... Like the white girl that worked as a janitor in her school.

It is when you are trying to remedy historically unequal treatment. I know folks like to forget about that just because.I am sorry, I am White and I am just not convinced that there is some widespread discrimination against Whites. There was a pic circulating of all the new White House interns - not a POC face among them. That confirms my belief that when it comes to race and gender, if you do not force people to do the right thing, they won't. Every successful White person is this country has benefited from some type of informal or formal "affirmative action" - whether they want to admit it or not.

The quote rings true.

Everyone is this country has benefited from some type of informal or formal "affirmative action."
