A solid B student who is well rounded at a highly rigorous school stands a decent change to attend a top school, don't let anyone tell you otherwise (no hooks here either).

This really highlights why paying boatloads of money for private school is a worthy investment. I know for a fact that STA has strong relationships with Michigan and Wake. Those relationships count, and can help tip the scales in especially close calls.

42 kids from Whitman got in to Michigan & 10 to Wake in most recent posted #s http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Magazine/September-October-2016/The-College-Chart/index.php?cparticle=7&siarticle=6#artanc

Those stats are acceptances not matriculations so lots of duplicates.

Do you think the college counselors at the schools like St Albans and NCS really help with admissions (i.e., can they make a difference and "sell" a student or persuade admissions to borderline students?).

STA - yes
NCS - not so much

At NCS the counselor did a fabulous job of selling up the big big donor kid. Like that was a hard deal to pull off. Did the one counselor ever leave? There was a lot of turnover for a while, but never the right person leaving. She just didn't seem to know crap.

Michigan accepts the same kid twice? And Wake does too? Well I know where my kids are applying--the schools where your kid has double the official odds of getting in.

No, the issue is that there is a big difference between one student getting into 10 top schools and 10 students actually going to those schools. Do you understand the difference?
