Stereotypes of cars

I have the soul of a BMW driver, trapped inside a Prius.

I guess most technically I am soccer mom. But I think I'd rather be lesbian, for the purposes of car selection (or that one random night in college but that's a whole other thread). Ugh. I hate cars and driving.

Just get the minivan.

Wow, the hate for BMWs makes so many PP's insecurity quite obvious.

Yeah, yeah, everybody's opinion is secretly an insecurity. Pretty much everyone who doesn't drive a BMW dislikes Beamer drivers. What is the insecurity we all share? And why don't we think the same about Audi, Mercedes, and Lexus drivers?

One of the nicest guys I know drives a BMW. Just likes the way they drive.

Lincoln or Mercury SUV: I cannot afford a Range Rover

Kia: I am too cheap or stupid to buy a Honda or Toyota

Cadillac Escalade: I'm a pimp, a drug dealer, or a soccer mom who thinks four feet from the curb is a good parallel parking job

BMW X5: I'm a social climbing asshole who knows nothing about cars because I want to pay triple digit oil changes for an SUV that has the same sport and off-road capabilities as a UPS truck

Audi: I bought this car in hopes that its looks and cache could fool you into thinking I'm a good driver as I go 25 mph on a Beltway on-ramp

Buick/Oldsmobile: I am over 75 or inherited this thing from someone who was

Wow, you and I have very different perceptions of cars.

I thought she was right on.

I liked the analysis too - to add a few more:

Prius - I lecture people who don't recycle

Mini - I wish I was British

Jaguar - I want people to think I'm rich and unique but really I'm a middle class follower

Toyota Camry - My car just needs to get me from point A to B, people who buy luxury cars are wasting their money on dumb status symbols

Honda Civic - I am a student or an immigrant or both

Porshe - I appreciated *performance* Just because I drive a nice car does mean I'm overcompensating >

Acura - I'm saving up for a lexus in a few more years

Toyota 4Runner - Can't wait to catch up my sorority sisters next weekend

MDX - I'm a cool mom

Jeep Cherokee - I love DC UNITED and the DMB

I love the way they drive too and came a hair away from buying one. I told myself I decided not to because of their maintenance problems, but it also might have been because I don't want to think of myself as a Beamer driver.

Toyota/Honda: I've given up/don't care/have a mom bob
Lexus/Acura: saving up for BMW/Audi/Mercedes
Aston Martin: my car's better than yours
Prius: Should be called Pious.
Ford: undercover cop

Ugh, no way. Minis have the least comfortable interior I've experienced, and this is coming from someone who spent years on the road with a different rental each week.

Not really, except in the sense that Jewish people have the highest average income of any minority group and people with higher incomes buy more BMWs.

One vaguely odd quirk of history is that Jews historically shunned Ford for being anti-Semitic but have never abandoned BMW and Audi for their Nazi ties.

(Unless you care about the back seats. The back seats are terrible.)

Confused as to how a mustang is REALLY overcompensating. I would think that a Charger or Camaro are much more of "overcompensating" cars than a Stang
