The Burj al Arab in Dubai ( so over the top it was tacky, but still an experience)

Yes, Amanyara. Amazing!

OP here. I think I may want to go to Amanyara for our 10 year anniversary next year without the kids.

Little Dix Bay, BVIs - love, love, love

Burj Al Arab
FS Bora Bora
FS Istanbul

Park Hyatt Buenos Aires

I second Amangiri. Also amangani.

OP here. Are the Aman resorts kid friendly? I have never stayed in one. The Turks and Caicos one is on my to visit list.

I have wanted to go to Amansara in Cambodia since before I was married. No one has ever wanted to go to Cambodia with me including my DH.

Yes, it was amazing last year when we were there. I also liked the Ritz Amelia Island and the Four Seasons in Chicago. Oh, and Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica.

I also thought of Shutters when I read this thread. I have traveled to destinations I liked a lot more than Santa Monica, but I loved that hotel.

Totally agree! Can't wait to go back when Zika is over

OP here. How was the beach there?

We stayed at the El Conquistador Waldorf last year and thought the beach was terrible. Pools were fine but there was so much debris on the beach. I thought this hotel looked amazing in pictures but was just ok in real life.

OP here. I wish this Shutters hotel was on the east coast. Anything like this over here?

The Montage in Laguna is very nice too. Maybe better than the Ritz. IMO.

We stayed at the Hotel Hana in Maui for our honeymoon. It was so relaxing. We were also able to stay at the Four Seasons in Maui on a different trip and that was also a great hotel but busier than Hana.
My in-laws took us to Spain last summer and we spent a few days at the Majestic Hotel in Barcelona with the kids. I loved the hotel and they had a great breakfast and location. I would love to go back!

Ah your question brings back fond memories OP. I used to be a lobbyist and we stayed at the best hotels around the country. For me, just about any Four Seasons, Ritz, W, or Fairmont is fine. I can't think of the best. For historical reasons, maybe Hotel Del Coronado.

Does anyone else have this problem....

Our master bath in our home is quite large, and, has his and her toilets. Now that we are accustomed to that, it makes even most very lovely hotel rooms fall short and feel cramped.

It's such a shock to my system after many years living in cramped NYC apartments, where getting away and staying in high end hotels was such a highly-anticipated extravagance!

Of course we still enjoy the great service in many of the world's special hotels though!

Ours is not huge, but we do have very nice finishes. It's...frustrating/annoying/something...so spend a TON of money to go somewhere and not have it be as nice as home.

With kids, the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Big surprise.

Also, the Hotel Belvedere in Bellagio on Lake Como. We have stayed there three times, and each one has been great. Beautiful setting, run by the same family of women for over a hundred years, and they are great with kids.

A chateau in the south of France, can't think of the name off the top of my head.

Runner up is Sea Island.
