Lighten up!

"Lighten up" about a child who was murdered? What, exactly, is funny about that?

She was referencing child pageants. Jon Benet is the most famous child pageant participant. Yes she also happened to be murdered. I think maybe RHoNY might be too edgy for you.

She said "Toddlers and Tiaras." Everybody gets that reference, too. How about Honey Boo-Boo? Another reference we will get.

I really don't see what is funny about a murdered child whose tortured mother later died of cancer. How odd that you do.

I'd have to agree with PP. That "joke" was really poor taste. It stung when I heard it.

Not to be a quibbler but JonBenet was not a murdered toddler. She was 6.

The JonBenet line didn't even register with me. Did not even think twice about it until reading this thread. Maybe I'm younger than PPs so it's not really a major cultural point of reference for me.

I didn't hear it either, what did Bethenny say?

That her daughter is into girly pink stuff but not into JonBenet territory yet. Meaning she's girly but not obsessively over the top.

Oh, OK. Her murder was OK then, because she wasn't 2. Thanks for clarifying.

She said something like, "Bryn likes pink and girly stuff...not 'Toddlers in Tiaras'-level, not JonBenet level, but just girly enough." Like, we got it from the "Toddlers in Tiaras" reference, you didn't need to make fun of a murdered child in the name of a punchline on a reality show.

And I didn't take it as Bethenny making fun of JonBenet -- she was making a reference so people would understand. I would say chill people.

Completely agree, pp. Please, there is a difference between a punchline and a point of reference. Yet another example of how people now are so sensitive about anything that is said.

This is a whole new crazy right here.

Again, "Toddlers in Tiaras" is enough of a reference. "Honey Boo-Boo" would actually be a more current, relevant reference. Bethenny was just showing off how "out-there" and "real" and "irreverent" she is, and I'm more than over her.
