Harvard, Princeton or Yale?

Too bad he didn't decide to become an art major when he was at Yale.

You do know that F. Scott Fitzgerald attended Princeton and had very strong views about Princeton, Yale and Harvard men?

1. this is a ridiculous thread, in large part because getting into these schools has become essentially a lottery, and there are far more than 3 excellent schools in this country, so boiling it down constantly to these 3 is ridiculous and narrow-minded.

2. princeton is exclusionary and elitist to the point of being almost offensive. harvard's undergrad education is not worth it (too much grade inflation, too many classes taught by TAs). if i had to chose, i'd chose yale (despite the fact that new haven sucks). however, i chose to not apply to any of those colleges (applied to georgetown sfs and uchicago early, got into both and chose georgetown sfs).

You do know that this was a (very good) joke, and that you're coming across as a douchebag?

You accurately describe Princeton a century ago - today not at all. How big of you to not even apply to any of these schools and yet to profess so much knowledge about them.

And how much do you know about Princeton? I have dozens of friends who went to those schools (my high school is essentially a feeder school to Ivy league and other top schools). It was very clear to all of us that Princeton expends the least effort of basically any other school in America to try to truly become an inclusive institution.

Princeton is ranked #1 on USNWR. It caters to undergrad. Yale is in a slum and Harvard is in Boston. I would pick Princeton.

Of course it caters to undergrad; it has an enormous endowment and more limited grad programs than Yale and Harvard. That doesn't mean it isn't a bastion of elite douchebaggery at a level that even Yale and Harvard aren't matching.

Not a Princeton alum, but the above is so untrue, that the PP sounds jealous and uninformed. Princeton was th first to have no loan financial aid. They are one of the most universities.

Not at all jealous. Just someone who knows a lot of people who went to Princeton and were unhappy with the environment.

Princeton is obviously in the most suburban environment. Yale is not in a slum, but it is urban and when you go more than a few blocks away from campus you feel it. But I saw a campus crime report about a year ago that actually reported noticeably higher crime in Cambridge against on the Harvard campus than Yale. Yale has more self-contained areas which may account for that. As for culture, without denigrating any school it seems reasonable to assume that more kids going to Princeton will not be as comfortable in city environments as those attending the others. The rest can be figured out.

Well, I went there and am still actively involved. For example, I attended an event with the university President a few months ago where 80% of the talk was about financial and other efforts to creat socioeconomic diversity. I think one could even argue that this laudable goal is becoming too much of a focus, but maybe they rightly feel that they have to go above and beyond because of people like you who have very outdated views of Princeton.

All three are terrific schools. If you are really bright, have a sense of purpose and go after what you want in life, they can equally give you what you need. If you are, however, the type that allows the impressions of others (ill-informed reputation, antiquated facts, prejudices) to dominate your view of things, then they are equally useless. They are far more similar than they are different.
