Glad you like Yale, but saying "we really love New Haven" is pushing it, don't you think, even by the gushy boosterism standards of DCUM.

Thank you. I'm laughing over that. DC spent two weeks at Yale for a program and turned down New Haven because of the town area.
If the "town area" makes you laugh then you'd bust a gut at UChicago, Columbia, and UPenn.

I think Morningside Heights is much nicer than New Haven.

+1 Also, Hyde Park is a delightful neighborhood, very safe and charming. It's where the Obamas lived.

No parts of it are still sketchy. You have to know which neighborhoods within Hyde Park to live. see. http://www.city-data.com/forum/chicago/85343-hyde-park-dangerous.html

I really hate people spreading bullsh*t. Hyde Park is not safe, my son gets crime alerts (many violent) all the time.

I loved the comment so much that I sent it on to DC at an Ivy. She's a Great Gatsby fan. I thought it was brilliant. Signed, Harvard, and loved every minute of it (time there, but also your line!). Did you know that quote is on Fitzgerald's grave in Rockville, MD?

DC lives in Hyde Park. There are sketchy parts; however, wide spread gentrification is happening both because of he University and the Obama library.
The diiferences have been remarkable just in the last two years. The big discussion in Chicago now is that Hyde Park will be unaffordable for current local residents much like what has occurred in the DC neighborhhoods. In terms of crime rates, I believe that Cambridge comes in highest of the schools discussed. The downside of all the upside from being near or in a city.

When it comes to prestige and desirability it is Harvard/Stanford first , then Yale/Princeton

And we had a negative reaction to Stanford. Too commercial.

Depends in what you are looking for. We thought Princeton and Yale were too theoretical and removed from the real world.

UChicago was banking on downtown's boom going south...but it went west instead. Hyde Park development is lipstick on a fat pig.
