Do you judge people by the wine they drink?

Yes - I'm with Miles Raymond

Jack: If they want to drink Merlot, we're drinking Merlot.

Miles Raymond: No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!

Meh. Most good wine can be had for under $20 per bottle - especially at the case price.

Chardonnay = ?
Sauvignon Blanc = ?
Pinot Grigio = ?

Merlot = ?
Cabernet Sauvignon = ?
Pinot Noir = ?

Etc.

This doesn't even make sense. I drink the wine appropriate to the food. Sometimes a Pinot goes, sometimes a chardonnay. A Provencal rose goes great with Provencal seafood dishes. It's not what I would choose to have with Italian food.

Soooooo...what you're saying is that you never drink wine unless you are eating food??????

I normally do drink wine with food. Some wine tastes much better with food. But my point is that I don't consider myself a Sancerre drinker. Or a Pinot drinker. Yes, I like those with the appropriate meal, but I am not going to have Sancerre with steak.

I drank quite a bit of Vino Verde that I got at Trader Joe's over the summer- I think it's about $6/bottle. I don't even know what type of wine it falls under- it's crisp and has a tiny bit of fizz. I like it and don't care if I'm judged for liking it, nor do I judge others for drinking what they like.

Same grape as Albariño. I too am pleased by its petillance.

In all seriousness, I don't judge people for drinking wine I don't like, although I may pass it up. My mom always gets super sweet stuff like white zin or moscato.

I do, however, judge people who are snobby about their food, restaurants, etc., and then post photos on Facebook of them drinking Cupcake Chardonnay or something like that. Or when people do "tastings" at Safeway and act like they are really hardcore into wine as they sip and debate some crappy grocery store Pinot. Those, I judge.

I have never heard anyone debate at a Safeway 'tasting' or even a TW tasting. Sipping of course makes sense, this whole point is to see if you like the wine enough to buy it. I won't bother with a cheap Pinot, because experience tells me it is never worth it, but there are others where finding a deal for a wine under $15 is quite possible.

If you can afford to pass on all wines below that price point, just be grateful.

That one line from this movie actually really affected Merlot sales and of course, Pinot Noir went up in popularity because of that movie as well. To me, it reveals how little someone actually knows about wine. Merlots can actually be quite good and most Pinots under $50 are crap.

Eh, I've never liked Merlot and I beg to differ about Pinot. But then, I'm not a meat eater so I prefer lighter bodied reds.
