How did the meetings go this week at the two schools? Any talk of fixing the split feeder middle schools or was it just about the boundaries at the two elementaries? |
It was just a talk about the two elementaries. |
Will kids be moving in both directions, or is it just Freedom Hill students moving to Vienna? |
As FCPS said in the meeting, "No decisions have been made." Take that with whatever value you want. |
This is the crux of the situation. The admin is for FH kids moving over to VE because they are "in town" and don't want split feeders, BUT they will not follow that line of thinking regarding the group of kids that attend Vienna and go to Kilmer/Marshall that DO NOT live within town limits. Their needs to at least be an exchange of the kids, otherwise THERE IS NO SPACE. There is already a liberal policy allowing in town families to enroll their kids into Vienna if they desire to. Why push to make it official? Two years ago the board said they would not be making boundary changes, and now they've gone back on that statement. MORE FCPS WASTE OF MONEY. |
There^ |
It seems like it would be a wash in terms of enrollment if the Madison kids at FH moved to Vienna and the Marshall kids at Vienna move to FH. I sense that the Town people were the ones behind this, and maybe FCPS doesn't want to take the Marshall families out of Vienna if they prefer it over FH, but where are the grown-ups? Either align the feeders or do nothing, but just moving one group of kids sounds like a dumb idea. |
This exactly. It would be more of an even exchange and the enrollment wouldn't change too much, but just moving one group of students in using the split feeders as the excuse and not doing anything about the other group is idiotic. Leave it to FCPS to make this a half ass change that will create more problems instead of solving any. |
Some of us Town people don't want it either! ! ! |
It would presumably be better for the Town students now at FH who would prefer to get to know more of their future Thoreau/Madison classmates sooner at Vienna. So I wouldn't say there's no benefit, just that without a reassignment to FH you may overcrowd Vienna and you do nothing for those now at Vienna who might prefer to get to know some of their future Kilmer/Marshall classmates sooner at FH. This could be really easy, but sometimes FCPS makes the easy stuff hard, which makes tackling the harder stuff almost impossible. |
Didn't say there is no benefit, but yes they are using the split feeder as the reason for the change, yet don't want to do anything about the other children there that will remain split feeders. It's hypocritical. It should be easy, but they don't want to finish the job. As far as they are considered, pretty much every school is overcrowded so it's no big deal to create overcrowding at Vienna too. They don't want to solve problems, just create new ones because it's easier that way. |
+1000 They don't want to upset the Vienna/Kilmer/Marshall families by having their property values go down. The bigger issue is going to be when all the children's classrooms are large and there is no room to add trailers, which the town doesn't want, or add additional classrooms. The town owns the two fields next to Vienna Elementary and FCPS has no room to expand the school. Plus, with all the new homes, the population is just going to explode at the school. No one is going to do anything until it becomes a problem. |
Which school is more overcrowded? Vienna or Freedom Hill? |
