Freedom Hill Elementary in Vienna

Whether they were at the public meetings or not; they were not part of the original request and no option was provided by staff that would have included them. Staff solely addressed the original request from some Town of Vienna families within the Freedom Hill boundary.

You are unconvincing. If the Marshall families at Vienna were sheep at these meetings and did not push for a move to Freedom Hill, it is because they did want to move to FH (and perhaps hold out hope of getting moved to Thoreau and Madison eventually).

I guess saying it louder and repeating your statement means you are right.

When the Town of Vienna families (who were zoned for FH) had to option to go to Vienna Elementary, only about 6 out of approximately 24 did that. Most of the FH parents seemed very happy with the FH. Sometimes, I think the Town of Vienna parents want the Marshall families out of Vienna because they perceive them as the poor step children. I'm not sure why moving the Marshall families out of Vienna is so critical to them considering that Vienna has a lot fewer students than FH.

Problem is that Vienna ES has no space for trailers if it becomes overcapacity. The playground is already so small with no field. Also the point of moving town residents to Vienna ES is to align high school pyramids. So moving the Marshall hs kids from Vienna ES to freedom hill would serve that purpose as well.

The Town would allow trailers anyway...

This. And the Marshall neighborhoods at Vienna are just as nice as most of the Madison neighborhoods at Vienna. They just don't want to move to FH because of some of the other FH neighborhoods and it makes it less likely they might get to move to Madison eventually.

The middle school and middle schools for the town of Vienna children will now be aligned. Why is the town of Vienna parents so concerned about Marshall kids being aligned????

Overcapacity of Vienna ES with no room for trailers equals larger class sizes.

Welcome to FCPS. Overcapacity and large class sizes seems to be the norm. From what I'm reading, class size is only going to get larger with the school 2017.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary extra bussing of kids around during a transition...given the "catastrophic" budget issues being discussed. The whole thing is an extra cost the county doesn't need to satisfy a small group.

The reason being they want bussing. With the option they would have to drive their kids to school. If they make a formally make a mandated change, they will receive bus service.

That was their main reason for wanting to change their choice from optional to mandated.

The problem is that FCPS is presenting this as wanting to align schools as their reason. But that reason is ridiculous if they see no reason to move the Marshall kids then, because that would also be to align schools. So they are presenting false reasons as a way to boulder this decision. I've absolutely no problem with the Marshall kids there, but if the argument is about alignment then stand by that.

If the argument sounds like this:
"We want bussing" vs "We don't want overcrowding" - both schools have a clear preference and there would need to be more support from Vienna Elementary school parents for this to pass without a big hoopla.

If the argument sounds like this:
"FCPS wants to align schools" vs "We don't want overcrowding"- it becomes a top down decision with much less input taken from Vienna El parents.

At the ONE last minute meeting they had about this at the end of the school year at the school, they were going through the motions but clearly had already decided what they were planning to do. They did not care about input.

It's an incredible waste of money and it's shady. Saying "oh well all of the schools are crowded, so let's make the one school that's not there yet, crowded too", shows how little FCPS plans to do about the overcrowding county wide. Cattle them in attitude all the way only means worse things to come for the rest of the county.

Interesting point considering that one of the self-stated reasons from the supporters at the public meeting for the change was the contention that Vienna ES is closer than Freedom Hill so their children could walk to school.

Yeeeeaaaaah...then why do they need a buses?

So all the Madison kids at Freedom Hill moved over to Vienna this year, and the Marshall families at Vienna didn't lift a finger to move to Freedom Hill, even though about 95% of Vienna goes to Madison and it would have been an easy trip up Woodford. I guess Vienna really is considered the better school.
