Seriously--that one was on you. How could you have thought that was a reasonable decision? Just say "Sorry, we can't come. Best wishes to you."

To your brother?

Yes. People who have destination weddings are assholes. No one is entitled to have a family member pay to attend their vanity party.

A nanny for DC1 (had a nanny until DC1 was 2.5 years- day care would have been way better for her)
private Montessori school for DC1 after the nanny - should have done a traditional preschool in church basement)
wedding - although I don't regret it too much (to pp - insist on pictures, kids love to look at them)
Fancy comforter/bedset for DC1 from Bellini. What a waste! Target has some great ones on-line.

THese mistakes were not made when I had DC2 and DC3.

Not a waste for us: gymnastics for years for DC1 beginning when she could walk - really helped her gross motor (DC2 and DC3 did not need them).

That's just RDT&E and procurement. Don't forget O&S.

The extra under coatings and bullshit I got with my new car. I was young, alone, and exhausted, but I still feel like an idiot. Never again.

Don't feel like an idiot. That's the game they play. 8+ hrs at a car dealership till you are exhausted and starving, ready to buy just to get out of there. Rest assured you are not alone. Never again, I'll be walking out!

We knew there was a chance I would have a c-section and was aware that contractually she was not obligated to do anything in that situation, but she ended up making a lot of money for very little work (except some support pre-delivery). If I were in her shoes I would have returned some of the money.

+1 sort of

I showed up at the hospital 10 cm dilated and my doula did not get there in time. I was pushing when she got there, so she was not let in the delivery room. However, I wish she had been there because the doc on call made it a horrible birth experience and it should not have been. So, it was a waste because she was not there. If she had been there, she would have been worth every penny. So, in general, I don't think they are a waste of money, but it in certain circumstances, like mine and the poster above, it probably was a waste.

Spent way way way too much on kitchen and bath renovations. We were totally happy with the process and outcome (though the bathroom didn't go as smoothly), but got totally fleeced. We knew we'd pay somewhat of a premium because we didn't want to deal with the hassle of finding contractors for each part, but still, I'd say we overpaid by about 40%.
