Living in new york renting. Total waste

I second renting in New York. It's a huge waste. Everyone is drinking the koolaid and thinks that it's normal to make 300k a year and only be able to afford a one bedroom apartment that's a million dollars and comes either monthly maintenance of a thousand plus. In reality most people are renting and spending all of their money on going out.

We made $250k/year and couldn't afford to buy. We figured even if we could, we'd have a mortgage of $3500 (if we were lucky) plus monthly maintenance of $2000. It's like renting from ourselves. I truly don't know how our friends are doing it.

I agree. Seems like buying there is more locking in the monthly payment than anything. Have no idea how are friends are doing it either. Most have no plans to buy. They all make a lot of money but don't save. I suppose they will be renting during retirement.

I'm a dad with short hair and during a cut the stylist convinced me to buy a bottle of Kérastase Homme Capital Force "densifying treatment" featuring "hair defence system" and "thickening effect," part of Loreal's "Système Taurine" series. $35 for a 4-ounce spray bottle.

She used it on my and said it makes the hair "poof" up a bit. I tried it at home and, yes, it poofs it up a little. But, I find I don't care, so I don't use it.

If you want it I'll leave it on my front porch for pickup.

When I was younger, tanning salons and cigarettes. What was I thinking? I also spent lots of money helping a man I thought I loved. He was a loser.

Second Cable TV.

Also a bunch of kids classes like kinder music and swim classes for my toddler. DC was way to young to really learn anything or appreciate what was hapenning.

Also weight loss program. LA weight loss. Thousand dollars. What a waste.

I couldn't disagree more! I LOVE my Vitamix. Use it every single day!! I'd starve without that machine. It's kept me off processed foods and sugar, gotten me to eat loads more fresh green veggies (in green smoothies). Love, love, love that machine. Give yours to me, and I'll have two! Yea!!

Realtors=total, complete waste of money. Just pick up tens of thousands of dollars in cash and throw it in the trash. Just as effective!!

High end kitchen renovation. Should have gone with mid-level reno. Total waste. We did it pre-crash (not DC area) and lost every penny and more when we sold. We were talked into high end appliances, etc., by our contractor who told us we had to have that stuff in our house because of its price point and neighborhood. Total B.S. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Ditto cable tv (gone now), gym memberships (never used), lots of clothes and shoes (barely worn), cheap toys and junk for kids (sent to goodwill barely used).

Disagree with PPS who found private school and baby classes a waste, though. Private was essential for our child, who is doing great and still at private, and baby classes were fantastic for ME, got me out of the house with the baby.

The Raw Green Organics RawJuvenate cleanse. Got it over LivingSocial for $70. Complete waste of money because it was so revolting I couldn't drink it. Turns out it's loaded with stevia, which is an artificial sweetener that tastes like ass.

To save someone else, this is what it looks like:

Make sure you like stevia before shelling out!

Not the PP, but I feel I wasted money on the high end vitamix when the lower end older model would have been just as good.
