At our son's middle school orientation the staff thoroughly reviewed the math criteria. They commented to the fact the TJ did not require nor need the kids to have finished Geometry for application. Honors math track was more than sufficient.

The students that "only" take Algebra 1 Honors in 8th grade technically qualify for TJ admission, but they are overwhelmingly not admitted.

Except for URMs.

Under represented minorities. Frankly, at TJ that could mean almost any demographic.

Honors MATH track is not enough. For TJ you cannot do Honors Math both years. You have to take Algebra and preferably Honors Algebra.

Honors Algebra is not enough applicants should have Geometry or higher.

Whatever. My point was Algebra is REQUIRED. They won't accept your application without it.

Then why do they accept those that have not taken geometry in 8th grade?

Link to the recent regs on TJ admissions.

There it is!! Algebra 1 in 8th grade would suffice, not necessarily geometry.

They do. The students that have not taken geometry are just very much in the minority.

Only about 4-5% of the admitted students have taken only Algebra I.
