I really doubt it. I am from Mississippi and while there were a few very quiet racist types, I never heard or saw anything like this. Just something to think about- We found DC to be much more racially divided and racist than anywhere in Mississippi. |
Please, we've been over this before. Wesleyan is totally unpreppy, Tufts doesn't much qualify either. Williams is maybe a tad too nerdy now to qualify. I'll give you the rest of them. Places like Dartmouth and Princeton should be added to the list but the bloodlines have been diluted as SAT scores have increased so they are getting more borderline. Bu they both have JCrew stores in town so at least look the part. |
The only prep school in the area. I don't want to say the name, but it's across the street from Sandhills. |
Uh yeah, wait until they gang-rape you at a frat party. And they would too. You're not one of "them," so not marriageable. If you show up at their party, you are fair game. |
How does going to Georgetown qualify you for talking about northeast prep culture?! |
| Get a life OP. |
That's what I thought. Please tell me they sent the boy in the KKK outfit home. |
| Not all Southern WASPs are like this. I know a classic Southern WASP who has all the "trappings" mentioned in this thread, and yet is not racist at all. Maybe a little clueless, but definitely not racist. |
| Clearly OP feels excluded. Don't let it get you down! |
No, he wasn't sent home. He got a lot of laughs from his friends, and changed out of the costume after morning meeting - the time when the entire Upper School meets for announcements. |
BC has a follow the sheep mindset. Lots of guys who hang out in packs, get drunk, and talk sh*t about other people especially women. |
I think I love you. |
Ugh. I lived in Raleigh. My coworker asked if her daughter could bring my ex boyfriend to school for show and tell. He was Jewish!! Trust me honey, the South is still the most prejudiced area of the US. I have more stories too about my DH in the South. He is South American. He will never willing go any where in the South. |
| I lived in SC for a while and couldn't believe the racist and prejudiced things I heard. Like pp said, some had never met a Jewish person and were fascinated when one moved in nearby. |
Overrrun by international students. Not preppy at all. |
