My wife and I work in the New Carrollton area. I go at least once/week from Lanham (about 4 miles from the New Carrollton metro station) to Silver Spring or Chevy Chase (about 2 miles from Silver Spring metro). I'm the one who keeps posting the list of US agencies and large companies in east and west which will have commuters riding the Purple Line. I know what I speak of as I have worked in this area for one of those large employers for 21 years and my wife has worked for another one of those large employers off and on for 26 years. The Bethesda NIMBYs don't want the light rail, but there are thousands who will want it and will use it. Many, many more will use it than will use the country club or the hiking trail. |
Im sorry to be rude, but PP you are an idiot. First of all, only part of Jones Bridge is abutted by federal property - and that's pretty heavily developed already. Are you really proposing knocking down NIH and Walter Reed so that you can keep your precious trail? Second, most of Jones Bridge Rd is abutted by homes and a school. How are you going to add a lane there? Finally, the stretch of the PL that parallels Jones Bridge Rd is only a small proportion of the PL. Whise homes would you like to knock down to add lanes thru Silver Spring and all the Cather communities to the east... All so that a rail line that is owned by the State already doesn't have to be used as a rail line. Get over your NIMBYism please. |

so much for moving into Bethesda for the schools!
NIMBY Land has gone purple! |
At least you're correct about being rude! That's about all you have going for you, the rest of it is just ranting nonsense. Have a cup of tea and go lie down. |
Your own personal convenience, is, of course, the most important consideration for Montgomery County taxpayers. |
Well since we live here and pay a shitload in taxes I think we should have a say; you may use the Purple Line but we have to live with it and it's going to adversely affect quality of life. And honestly, why would I want to go to New Carrolton or Lanham or pretty much anything east of Grubb road? Parkway Deli is far enough east for me. |
Really? Precisely what did I say that's inaccurate? |
Have you considered Lanham or New Carrolton for schools? |
Well, for starters, you wouldn't have to "knock down NIH and Walter Reed", just sacrifice a little campus space for a lane where it's needed, if there. There are a few homes on Jones Bridge Road, but most of it is, as I said, used in other ways. There's a long stretch of Columbia Country Club, too. The rest of it is just nonsense. |
There are more than a few homes on JBR - i live in this neighborhood, there are literally dozens of homes and a school. And you obviously haven't been near NiH lately because they've done a ton of construction - new buildings just north of Jones Bridge Rd. The State is already widening the intersection at Conn Aveto deal with current traffic overcrowding- they can't widen it any further at any other point. Sorry PP, light rail isn't going away. And the weird thing is that many of us who live right here are happy about that. Why aren't you? What is your real objection? |
I live in Montgomery County. I pay taxes in Montgomery County. I want the Purple Line. |
Look at Google Maps; the congested stretch of Jones Bridge lies between Connecticut Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue. North of that stretch is all Walter Reed and the North Chevy Chase park. The school is east of Connecticut, as is North Chevy Chase Village. Connecticut Avenue is already congested at rush hour, and it will only get worse with the new high-rise development at Connecticut Avenue and Manor Road. I was responding to someone who suggested lanes reserved for buses on Jones Bridge Road, and that's not a bad idea. I don't see that they'd need to extend beyond Connecticut Avenue, though. |
I live in Montgomery County. I pay taxes in Montgomery County. I want to keep the tree cover and I want to keep the trail. |
The trail will still be there. |
Then see if you can have it redirected into your backyard. |
