If it were part of the curriculum then how do you justify that the school is not paying for it? Public schools can't charge for required components of the education. Therefore, if it is part of the curriculum then the school needs to foot the bill for all students. But if it is optional, then it needs to not be during the school year. |
It's not mandatory. No one is forcing anyone to go. Parents have the choice of sending or not like any other field trip - a very expensive one but why should tax payers foot the bill. If they can raise the funds or pay for it on their own, that's fine. |
But then it shouldn't be during the school year. Perhaps instead of the usual summer school? |
many school trips happen during the year. a trip to china (or most anywhere else) would be more expensive in the summer or during holidays--hence the timing. |
Laugh away. A former Yu Ying parent made no secret of the fact that her special ed child wasn't a good fit and thus was moving to Basis. |
Why the disclosure about special ed? |
Hm, that implies that YY is failing in their mandatory requirement to help SN students. If a child can survive at Basis with the proper help in six grade algebra and Latin, surely the same child can survive in YY with flighty no-book instruments. That is, provided the child was given proper help. |
And another parent sent out an email to the entire YY list serve stating that her child thrived at Basis' summer program because Basis provide structure where there was none at YY. What exactly is your point. |
We have a SN child in a lower grade and could not be happier and I know other parents with SNs kids at YY who feel the same. The school works very hard at meeting the needs of SN kids and creating an inclusive environment. YY has a new program this year where the SN teachers visit the student's home early in the school year to help the child acclimate to them and get to know each other better. Also, the service providers have been great and very caring. |
YY can give a rats ass about the leading class. It has always been that way! |
You are so right! Especially the principal, whose own son is in that class ![]() |
Not exactly--what she said was that Basis had more structure not that Yu Ying had none. She also said they are walking distance from Basis. |
I don't see how this original quote was negative. None of these attributes are innate. |
Can you pls name this school? Thanks! I live in denver and am so curious. |
Airfares are much higher in the summer and around school holidays. If the trip took place in July as opposed to May, expect to add about $1k making the trip cost 4,500 rather than 3,500. Off season is cheaper... |
