Shah's of Sunset-thoughts?

Back to the show, it comes on tonight I think.

I do not get the Gigi hate. Someone explain. Yes, I know she said that she did not like ugly people but still.

I am glad they are taking the high or lighthearted road on the flirty Muslim and Jewish attraction b/w Mike and Gigi. Is his name Mike? I may have just given him a new name.

Maybe because she said she hates ugly people and ANTS! Ants has to be the trigger, don't you think?I think his name is Mike and hers is GG which was short for a very long Persian name. Despite all the negativity I still think it's good that the shows let's people see that within Iranian society religion is not as important as portrayed, there are muslims, jews, christians, zoroastrian, etc. I thought all of them where bit nuts except that Sammy guy, and then he went and got a tiger for his party...

Sounds like this guy would have perfect for this show at one time.

But he was not a superficial man. Bijan designed seasonal collections for the most powerful men in the world. He was an extraordinary Man! A connoisseur of quality, perfection and universal design excellence, Bijan was a genius marketer of perception and image for his men’s couture, haute jewelry and a spectrum of award-winning fragrances. His lofty eminence and multi-billion dollar empire as the peerless purveyor of elegance and affluence, was uniquely forged in 1976 on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, by just three words, ‘by appointment only’, offering him unprecedented access to the greatest wealth in the world. He was a treasure of enormous admiration and remarkable creative brilliance. Do YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO READ A LIST HIS AWARDS & HONORS?

Ooookay, but the why did the poster chose to list characteristics that feed into the program?

There is a big difference btw the superficial and materialistic people who just spend money and the people who love their jobs and are trying hard to be the best one. Yes, Bijan had his exclusive Bijan-designed Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport and ... but it doesn't mean he was a materialistic person. He was not a wealthy man from his childhood, he worked hard and succeeded. Is Bill Gates a supericial and materialistic man?

Only a feeble minded person like yourself would be humiliated by a reality-show.

But this is not the issue. we are here to talk about the show and how much it depicts Iranians. The world is full of migrated Iranians, more than 5 million. And most of them are very successful people. I've heard, according to the space magazine, 43% of NASA scientists are Iranians or The founding president for the Congress of International Neurosurgeons (MASCIN) is an Iranian (Dr. Majid Samii),... wherever you go, you see a successful Iranian. I think the show must represents all the Iranians not just a small group. And I don't know why this group is chosen???!!!

I am Iranian, I think it's kinda like a parody and certainly entertaining (so glad I can be anonymous). I do wish they would have casted some hotter chicks, Persian chicks are super hot, but now I'm stuck with the two ugly ones and GG who is fuckgly. But I do admit, that Reza guy has a EPIC mustache... I find myself starring at it

I'm married to an Iranian. The Iranians in LA are mostly, wealthy and educated. They can be very sophisticated people. But there are also a lot of very materialistic Iranians on the fringe of the uber-wealthy ones who seem like they are always trying to keep-up. They seem, to me, very insecure people who think if they aren't wearing designer or driving a luxury car, they are worthless. They are the types who live in mediocre rented apartments but buy $5000 handbags. These are the ones depicted in the show. Maybe not college educated, trying to make big bucks in real estate, etc. Some do it. Others just hang in. My inlaws are this type- except they are all in car dealerships.
But do you think the educated, sophisticated Iranians would agree to be on a reality show? Of course not! Same for DC Housewives. The actual power players of DC would never agree to something so cheesy. You need to be very insecure and desperate for 15 minutes of fame. The producers sniff these people out to capitalize on their insecurity. That makes good reality TV!
But it is too bad for the Iranians who are educated and sophisticated because too often many Americans have no idea what Iranians are like. They stereotype them as poor or fanatic or from some third world existence. Now middle-america will have a new stereotype: greasy, materialistic and shallow.

PP here. Forgot to agree with the PP before me. Funny they couldn't find more attractive cast members. Iranian woman can really be striking.

I do not have a ton of Iranian friend, but one of my best friends is iranian and she is NOTHING like the people on the show. She is a professional career woman, unmarried, and financially takes care of her mother and grandparents.

She dresses normally and is very humble. She is extremely intelligent, well read, and has a fasciating story of how her family had to flee iran when the Shah fell.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but I have no friends like the trash on that show. You have friends like that? That says a lot about you.

To call them trash is a bit to harsh and if anything they are just products of American consumerism.

It's not fair to show Iranians like this. Iranians are usually very down-to-earth, educated and analytical people. According to the space magazine, 43% of NASA scientists are Iranians. There are bad and good in every walk, why the ugly side is chosen?
