I just watched this movie and was not expecting the ending. I cried like a baby. Life is Beautiful is probably the worst tear-jerker for me andthe scene i don't think anyone has mentioned is when the dad is marching off to his death and keeps up the game for his son and his son is smiling at his silly dad as he hides. |
Me, too, but for me it's because I remember my father saying that it explained how he felt and never wanted to be that father who was always away. And then he was. Field of Dreams gets me, too, with the catch scene. Clearly I have daddy issues... And The Lion King. The opening scenes, with the music and all the animals gathering. Kills me every time. And my son asked the other day why the daddy lion wouldn't get up. I had to leave the room. |
| Hotel Rwanda...when the little girl says, "Please don't let them kill me. I promise I won't be Tutsi anymore." |

I can remember crying during The Notebook and then again the day after when I was telling my mother what the film was about. The ending was beautiful but terribly sad at the same time. The love the husband had for his wife was incredible. Great love story!

Westside Story: After Tony dies-- Maria's gun-waving speech/breakdown
(not a movie, but...) Les Miserables: When the priest gives val Jean the candlesticks after he's caught stealing his other silver On another note, songs I used to think were cheesey now make me cry... eg, country songs about parents and kids/kids growing up fast, etc. |

OMG....I'm going to start crying just thinking about the scenes you guys have recapped!!
15:02, reading that gave me chills. I remember that scene and CRIED buckets. It was so incredibly touching. I agree with the folks who mentioned My Girl (when Caulkin's character dies) and Imitation of Life (funeral scene). We watched Imitation of Life many times growing up and it never fails to make me cry. Don't think I can handle watching it now. So incredibly sad! I haven't seen, read or even heard of Sophie's Choice. I tried to skip posts that looked like they would give too much away. Now, I'm afraid. I'm an avid reader, so I don't know how I missed this one. I haven't seen Schindler's List...mainly because movies dealing with the Holocaust are just terribly sad. Same goes for anything dealing with slavery. Many movies that have made me cried have been listed (The Kite Runner, The Color Purple, Toy Story 3 (when Andy leaves Woody!!), Boys Don't Cry, Philadelphia (so incredibly sad). But one movie that never falls to make me cry buckets is Set It Off. OMG........I'm getting sad just thinking about it! Other movies: Ghost, Cold Mountain (My God...I almost lost it!), Million Dollar Baby, Blood Diamond. There are so many others. |
That's the one. Awful. |
This makes me cry every time too. What a great little actor he was. |
|
Old Yeller: I watched this with my young nephew before I had kids and was crying so hard he ran from the room and told my sister something was wrong with me!
Marley and Me: Lost a contact with that one. Life Is Beautiful: I agree with the PP about the scene where he marches to his death. It's too horrible to contemplate. |
Another vote for this scene -- so moving! The mom was played by Toni Collette -- one of my favorite actors (see her in Muriel's Wedding, Little Miss Sunshine, About a Boy). |
Jesus. I've never even seen that movie (a jerk spoiled the ending for me), but just reading that made me cry. |
The boy in the striped pajamas, it's the same boy -the commander's son- in that movie as in Hugo, which also made me cry when he cries about how alone he is and how he is missing his dad!!! |
| I'm the OP on this thread. Thanks for all the responses. I've enjoyed this ( although sad.....) |

So many of these are tear jerkers for me as well...Steel Magnolias, Life is Beautiful, Stepmom, My Girl...almost all of the movies mentioned.
Just about every scene in Shawshank Redemption gets to me. Especially the scene when Brooks kills himself--so sad. |
I won't watch that movie. I used to work in a bookstore, and we'd get advance copies of things in the break room so we could opine on new books. There I am, on my break, heavily pregnant and I pick up this book with stripes on the cover. I was a wreck for the rest of the day. |
