Markets to Tea Party: You Suck!

as long as money printing is occuring, it will go up, when interest rates increase and there is tightening, it will go down. The world is on the edge of collapse, bondholders are now aware they are last in line and will be "paid back" with battered dollars. If there is growth or real and serious budget cuts Gold will get hammered. Until that time....

Man, I wish I could get on the other end of that trade.

Seriously, after the tech bubble burst, we wondered what the next bubble would be. Then came the suburban real-estate bubble. When that burst, folks wondered what the next bubble would be. I think we have our answer.

Crazy defeatist talk. The world will always need shiny trinkets - how could the price go down?

I hope that was sarcasm. Because of course those of us old enough to remember know that gold was over $2000 an ounce in 1980, adjusted for inflation. And of course it plummeted later on.

The "shiny trinkets" is the key. I just find it funny that some people act as if the only commodity option is gold. I feel like I'm always linking this:

Yes, behold the terror of the bondholders:

I almost feel sorry for you guys, since it's clear you believe this stuff. It's 1999 all over again, and you're dumping all your money into Pets.com. Oh, and giving yourself an Attaboy for you investment savvy.

If rates get to even 3%, gold-bugs are going to get their milkshake drunk. People love simple answers. Especially if the simple answer flatters their ideological prejudices.

Thanks Tea Party for today's present. Another 520 points off the Dow. Only 3700 more to go, and we'll be back to the day Bush left Office.

I guess you got your stock market back.

Who could have predicted the tpers would cause so much damage to this country? How long before they are kicked to the curb by the moneyed republicans? You know it is coming!

The stupid wing of the GOP - you know in their hearts they regret their mistakes, but instead of admitting it, they'll just charge into the next thing.

Bush, the friendly simpleton who reminds me of me - yay! Oops.

The Tea Party, a welcoming movement full of people who don't make me feel stupid, and who allow me to speak my mind, however moronic or even racist my thoughts - sweeeet! Oops.

Next? A Tic-Tac-Toe chicken for president? He's funny - awright!

So, the new super congress so far represents about 15% of the us population. Great...feel real good about this!

You know, I disagree. I think the Teabaggers see what the country has turned into *socially* (e.g. gay marriage, black presidents, and women bosses) and they're repulsed. They "want their country back". They see an economic convulsion--much more extreme than the one we're experiencing--as something to be embraced, not avoided. They look at it as a kind of chemotherapy: lots of upheaval in the short-run, but necessary to remove the cancer from the body politic. They're quite sure that they are the ones who will come out least scathed. It's the reason there's so much overlap between Teabaggers and "survivalists". There's a part of them that just wants to burn the whole damned thing down. Because if we fix things, we'll just be back to gay people holding hands in public and the War on Christmas.

I mostly agree. I think that they're the same dumb group the GOP has been manipulating for years, but that they're current bag is much as you described. But I think soon they'll realize - though never admit - that they screwed up again.

Bashing the tea party is not going to work. You have every reason to fear them. They are going to defeat the left. They are the new anti-establishment movement. It's fun to watch drive the establishment crazy! The increasing power is amazing.

You clearly don't have much experience with third party politics. Watch and learn.

Debt-ceiling debate was the Teabagger high-water mark. GOP approval rating is now at 49%. Either the money-men who control the GOP (and see a benefit in harnessing the ignorant rabble) will cut out the Teabagger cancer, or the GOP will continue to lose influence. Since the monied interests usually get what they want, expect the latter. (For the most recent example of this, look at the current fiscal/monetary debate: generally speaking, inflation and unemployment are opposing forces. The job of the Fed is to balance the two. Currently, inflation is a little under 1%. Unemployment is around 10% (16% if you look at U6).

The fed (and the Teabaggers) are concerned about inflation. In other words, they're useful idiots. When they're not useful anymore they'll be flushed.
