BTW: You could write an article on the death penalty. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
2267 Assuming that the guilty party's identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against an unjust aggressor.
Phew, OK. Well, as long as you check all your opinions agains the Catholic Catechism before posting, writing, or publishing anything (or linking anything to your Facebook page) I guess you'll be OK and your child's standing at school will be ok? |
I still think the point is to remind parents not to be actively undermining the education that they are paying for their children to receive, and that education includes the morals, values and teachings of the Catholic Church. School is teaching the sacraments and describes marriage as between a man and a woman. Little Aidan says, "but my friend Emily has two mommies. My parents said that families are all the same. My dad said that anyone two people should be allowed to get married and it doesn't make a difference". Or, school is teaching sex ed with an emphasis on abstinence, and 15yr old Madison says "my mom just put me on the pill and told me that if I'm going to be sexually active, then I need to be protected". It's probably less about parent writing a letter to the editor than it is actively contradicting the Church directly to the child. |
How many Catholic parents with kids in Catholic shools attend Mass on a regular basis? |
You have gone from one form on one parish school website to all parish schools are controling the outside activities of the parent of the kids attending that school. Show me one instance where a parent was told to do or stop doing something by their parish school. |
Not a clue, but my guess is more than the average Catholic families without kids in parochial school. If your faith is important enough to you that you have your child in Catholic school, then my guess is that you are the kind of Catholic who consistently makes it to Mass. |
I doubt that seriouisly. Schools do not tell parents that are having affairs to stop, or parents who don't go to church that they must or be removed from the school. They do not point out the sins of each and every person and try to control them. Kids of divorced parents are not ostracized or kicked out. I am sure plenty of Catholic girls are on the pill and not kicked out for it. That thinking is a little over the top. I am just picture a nun outside McD's telling all the kids in uniforms they are gluttons and reporting them to their parish schools.

| I was thinking just the opposite -- that it is about taking really "public" positions -- such as politicians and prominent government officials publicly declaring their "pro-choice" positions. That has caused some awkwardness at some parishes (ie, do we deny Senator so-and-so communion?), and schools might be trying to avoid similar situations -- although it is harder to see how a parent's public positions affect the school unless the parent is really active in and somehow closely associated in poeple's minds with the school. My kids go to a conservative Catholic school but are developing their own political views, which do not always coincide with Church teaching or their parents' views. That is as it should be. |

The point was to correct the misperception that the Church's teachings forbid capital punishment; the Catechism of the Catholic Church was cited as the authority for my correction. Too many people misunderstand the teaching, as did the PP who cited support for capital punishment as an example of something that would violate the signed pledge. And, believe it or not, some people actually own the Catechism. |
It appears to be the same form on all parish schools in the Archdioscese of Washington, actually. |
|
Here: Just Google "I/We will not publicly repudiate the teachings of the Catholic Church" and you get a list of all the ADW Catholic schools, basically:

| Wow that must be something new. i never saw that before. |
It appears to be rarely used - talked to friends in 4 different parish schools. They have never heard of this form. |

If it does happen, then if you have money they will still be nice to you. Only if you do not have money will they 'maybe' make an issue out of it. Everything can be bought |
They probably just signed without reading. It is on page 5 of the Archdiscese of Washington School registration form for parish schools. Tell them to take a look. |

"They probably just signed without reading."
The irony drippeth. |
