Wootton’s regional programs need more teachers. The programs will be the best.

"AP Enrollment in Music Theory junior year" is another good one.

Wow. The M.ad M.omm.ies of M.oC.o are really deranged. Imagine being so unbalanced that you would post something like this and expect people to guffaw knowingly.

You’re replying on Page 5 of the thread so…

Taylor and crew just got into work. They had a tough day yesterday getting berated at the Council. Attacking parents is how he relieves stress.

They were berated by the Council? Oh I've got to watch that.

So MCPS and Board President Grace Rivera-Oven had to defend their CIP to the Council. Watching now to see how hard the Council went in on them.

Ok. So the confrontational part seemed to start when Friedson challenged Taylor on whether he'd been transparent and engaged with the public about the relocation of the bus sites.

Taylor looked like he wanted to get up and punch Friedson. He was very spicy and feisty. Essie appeared flustered as she always does. What a horrible chief of staff pick.

If Friedson were to become County Exec, it'd be interesting to see how he and Taylor would work together....

Time stamp: around 2:20

I also found very uncomfortable hearing how Taylor and Grace addressed student member's question on whether they had surveyed student atheletes on preference of real grass vs. artificial one (time stamp: 2:00 ish). They both ducked in the first round, and then Grace said she got emails from her district saying student athletes like artificial grass. There's absolutely no survey that I'm aware of about this. Again, they are making changes without users' inputs/feedback.

I play soccer and hate turf. The touch is so different, and turf is burning hot under sunshine. As an environmentalist with my job, I can also tell you 100 bad things about turf to the environment vs. real grass.

I agree. They were both condescending and negative in their tone. They didn't listen to the substance of his question and were more interested in defending the board and system's decision.

That is telling and it's terrifying since it's supposed to be the job of these people of either educating our children or shepherding the education of our children. And treating children with disdain the way they did should be a red flag for those people in that role.

Friedson called MCPS out!

"The challenge here is then there are no listening sessions, there are talking sessions. Because we've already essentially decided the outcome."

Hi, Andrew. Welcome to the MCPS Playbook. This is exactly what they deployed for the Boundary Study and Program Analysis. MCPS "listening sessions" are always irrelevant because the outcome has always been decided regardless of what is said or shared in any listening sessions.

I can see why Taylor would be irritated as MCPS is trying to find places for the bus depot because the Council wants the land the current depot is on for developers. Maybe Taylor was expecting them to back him up on this since they are the ones that want the bus depot moved.

I don't know much about the sites Taylor is proposing, but I agree with the councilmembers that it was weird for Taylor to propose such sites without real outreach to the impacted communities. I might be wrong, but I do not think I am allowed to lease my house's driveway to a taxi company because my property is a residential property. Changing a site that was intended to be for a school to a bus depot seems like a pretty significant change in the use of the property. Maybe our zoning ordinance allows this. But it seems like kind of a dick move.

And I thought his response to the concerns about community outreach was really dismissive and dishonest. I'm looking at the BOE's adopted CIP now and it is quite hard to identify where the sites are (they aren't even listed in the Superintendent's CIP or in the Project Description Form - just in a table called: Expected Facility Use Schedule for Fiscal Years 2027-2032)

If the county council is annexing the land from MCPS, they should either pay out MCPS or find land, and pay for the new facilities. This is a county council issue, not MCPS.

One Montgomery County. It's everyone's issue and MCPS has a track record of not playing well with other county agencies.

Of course students can stay in their home schools and not specialize in anything. The majority of students will be like that.

The fact that people are confused about this shows just how bad MCPS comms are.

Thanks, I'm the poster of that question and felt gaslit that the answer wasn't on the MCPS website- the ParentVue/Email we got yesterday made it seem like you had to pick a program!

The email yesterday was incredibly confusing and did make it seem like everyone was supposed to pick a program like a Harry Potter sorting. Their comms are so unclear.

They won’t get more teachers. MCPS isn’t adding teaching positions for programs. Principals will have to make cuts elsewhere to increase positions for program classes.

The Council pays MCPS billions of dollars every year. They fund all MCPS facilities including the bus depot (yes the state pays for some of it too, but the Council pays for the majority of it). They aren't taking this land for free. Everyone has been trying to find a new place for the MCPS bus depot. It's a sucky issue to have to work on.

Taylor and Grace Rivera-Oven know EXACTLY how students feel about grass versus plastic fields. That’s why Rivera-Oven made a point to shut up the student. The BOE actually funded a report by students. Taylor and Rivera-Oven made sure that wasn’t discussed.

Please feel free to share the document showing that the Council is "taking" the land. They want to develop it but haven't for literally decades because nobody can find a good spot to put all those buses. Taylor trying to sneak in bus depots the way he did doesn't help. He made himself an easy target for the council members and lied about how much information he had shared publicly.
