NP. I used to believe this. I really did. I now realize they don't work for me. It's a rouse. They work for the person with the biggest purse. They don't even try to hide it anymore. Right now, there is a case pending in front of the SCOTUS wherein they are asking the court to remove all guardrails on bribing the politicians. Pay to play. |
What an odd, unnatural response. Is it snowing in Moscow? |
| I have family members who have lost jobs bc of DOGE family who have experienced hate bc they are lgbtq |
I have one friend with a totally traumatized 4 year old because ICE came into her daycare and aggressively arrested her teacher on school property. I have a non-binary child and I'm afraid for their safety as more people feel emboldened to say or do unkind or unsafe things towards them. I'm a teacher and at my school, we now have to do extra morning and after school duty to keep an eye out for ICE and try to keep them away from the car line. I feel incredibly unsafe doing this, but I'll do it to protect the most vulnerable. My family has pretty much given up eating out and ordering coffee because prices are so crazy. We always shop at Aldi first and then hit a traditional grocery store for the rest. My refugee friends have lost their SNAP benefits and are now only eating 2x a day instead of 3. Even the kids. (Yes, my family helps as we are able) I keep waiting for the entire market to collapse and lose much of my retirement. And just having to read or hear the insane things trump and his trumpettes say leaves me and everyone I know feeling gross. I could go on. |
Yes. Life is a lot easier when you stop worrying about stuff you cannot control. Focus on you immediate family first, then your neighbors, then your community, city, country, the world. You have less energy the less connected you are as that group gets further away. |
There you go. You just proved MAGA is uneducated. |
If only this admin cared about our communities, cities, and the country. Alas... |
I don’t have to go far beyond myself and my to see the effects. Members of my family of origin, my coworkers’ families, and many people in my small church are being affected by this. You’re right that “worrying” does nothing, but seeing sad things happening to other people makes me feel sad too. I don’t stew or dwell on it. I’m not crying about it. But I know it’s happening and it makes me feel less happy about living here. I loved living here before because there was a sense of us all doing good work, having purpose, and raising our kids in a stable, prosperous, and neighborly environment. It isn’t the same anymore. |
People are being targeted for their skin color regardless if they’re here legally or not. Are you not aware that this is happening? |
Me personally, the grocery prices have gone up, I have a family member who is in the DACA program and I don’t feel he’s safe anymore. He was brought to this country at six years old. I have undocumented friends who are no longer safe. They’ve been here 20+ years and have worked mostly in the restaurant and hotel business. None are criminals. They work 60 hours a week and don’t complain like the American born. I’m glad none of my family likes the Southern states we’ve been to because it’s like going back in time down there but that scares me a little if the Southern states get more voting power. What impact it has on all of us is our country’s destroyed reputation. The world has seen the MAGA rallies and have seen the effects of an education system in decline. They see buffoons with very serious jobs in our country. Blowing up boats, constantly threatening countries. Tariffs made Trump a joke in China who just didn’t buy our produce. Now Trump has to hand over $12 to farmers for his stupidity. It’s affected your life, you just don’t get it. |
DP. You realize that people are laid off ALL THE TIME in private industry, right? They don't expect to be exempt from lay offs for the rest of their lives.
|
It isn’t the layoffs. It’s the arbitrary, capricious, cruel and pointless layoffs coupled with the destruction of the economy making it harder to find another job. |
That is simply not true and I used to work on big money. Not every pol is on the take; moreover, pols will respond pressure, including astroturf made to feel like grassroots. And don't use "they" to describe the plaintiffs in the SCOTUS case - it's the national Republicans pressing this suit. So, please, stop with the BoTHsIdeS! |
"They work 60 hours a week and don’t complain like the American born" Don't you think this is a problem when our workforce is conditioned to working like indentured servants to keep their jobs? You think this has anything to do at all with the general disenchantment of our young generation with the workplace and early departure of middle class people from the workplace? I think it's terrible to go after people who had worked and lived here for decades, there should be a path for citizenship for such people who had contributed and assimilated. But I also don't condone exploitation of labor in general because it ultimately hurts our own population and workforce dynamics. Please tell me you don't think that having to compete with desperate people wiling to work unpaid OT for many years and never complaining is what we should aspire to do.

Why is it harder to find other jobs? Because of mass layoffs in private industry. See how it all goes together? |
