Hannah Avery (female) James Lachlan Pretty standard stuff. My oldest is 10 and his friend group is very diverse but the names are all still Liam, Noah, Brendan etc. |
Yeah I don’t particularly think of Sydney and Wyatt as redneck. Sydney definitely isn’t, Wyatt could be but could also easily be normal. |
oof Lawler seems like a hard name for kids to pronounce--even if he learns how to say it it's going to be butchered by many of his friends! Hope he learns to answer to "Wah-wuh" or whatever the other kids call him. |
My kid is 8 and one thing that kind of amazes me is that in her entire elementary school, there are only a few overlapping names. It's like the entire community collectively decided to diversify their kids names with very little duplication. And it's not like everyone has a super uncommon name. Most kids have "standard" names. But somehow there's only one Sophia and one Noah, for example. When there are duplicates, they are rarely in the same grade -- I can only think of one example of this in the whole school. |
Hilarious and accurate |
It’s not just your daughter’s school. The most popular names these days are used by a smaller percentage of the population than the most popular names when we were growing up. There’s more variety in names now, so although it seems like there are a million little Charlottes, Noahs, Olivers, etc. there aren’t nearly as many as there were Sarahs, Ashleys, Davids, etc. back in the 80s and 90s. |
Those names are okay. I know siblings Colt and Wynne (short for Winchester). They're my cousins kids in Montana. Horrible |
Colt is not great but Wynne is okay. I know an adult Wynne and it suits him and he's a great guy. What would have been awful would have been Colt and Wesson (which is in the top 1000 names in the US, sadly). Though I actually think Wesley/Wes is a good name. Some other boys names I've heard of recently that I find awful: Maverick, Remington, Blaze, Jagger Also, I frequent a baby naming subreddit and mostly it's great, but the one question I absolutely loathe seeing posted is "I want to give my daughter a "cool girl" name, please suggest some." The names suggested are mostly perfectly fine, but this impulse of wanting to give your daughter a name that will make her a "cool girl" in life feels super toxic to me. It's like "I want my daughter to be better than other girls, how can I best accomplish that?" It's of a piece with naming your son after a brand of gun or a wildfire or a rock star. |
Is their third kid going to be Remington? |
