Can we please not turn this into an “evils of alcohol” thread? Thanks. |
The whole “lattes and avocado toast is preventing you from owning a house” trope has been thoroughly debunked. |
Let's face it--most people on DCUM are wealthy. All the fake talk here about saving on coffee is a distraction from the big picture. That's why Jeff is able to make a good income from this website--the demographic spends money. |
Agree with those who say make more money. I don’t spend frivolously but I don’t say no if my kids want takeout or a new toy from Amazon. So 🤷🏼♀️.
I mean, I don’t have a fancy car but even upkeep for a regular Japanese suburban SUV is expensive. And this is after maxing out retirement in 529. And putting money in investment accounts. Oh, and I’m a single parent who is the breadwinner so I imagine dual income households where the earner has a background like mine have even more money to spend. |
I don't think this word means what you think it means. |
Our travel picked up as DH's income significantly increased over the last 5 years. Before that we didn't do any international travel and spring break was to exotic SC to visit family. I'm not the type of person who is going to search out every travel bargain, etc. I don't have the time or energy, but am impressed by those who do. We simply didn't spend the money before we could very easily afford to. |
K-shaped economy. 😕 Those at the top are still making more money, especially with the stock market being being so strong. |
Debunked by who? Millennials? |
SW card companion pass for both parents
Chase Sapphire Reserve United card or Delta We don't us any other credit cards all points go on one card to get best benefits. |
We make a lot of money. |
I am looking at reward calculators. Virgin round trip to London from DC in March is 12k points plus $440. For economy. Upper class is well over a thousand. FlyBlue is over $600 for Amsterdam or Paris in business plus 300k+ points. United is 305k points round trip plus $384 in business. For economy it is 71k points plus $214. |

DP. Maybe the dates you picked are expensive for some reason. I use my points for economy redemptions, but I paid 23k points plus $50 for a one-way LHR-JFK Delta flight on Labor Day. I also go to Paris at least once a year on AF, which is generally 50k points round-trip plus $200 in taxes. Last year they were running some sort of sale so it was 27k points round trip. |
We only go once a year. |
