$24k for rush at Alabama??!!

Why are DC mommas so obsessed with Bama? Is it because it's easy to get in?

The Greek system in the SEC, particularly in the Deep South states, is one of the most lucrative networks you can plug into. Joining a top-tier sorority at Alabama puts you at the front of the line to date and potentially marry the fraternity men who will be running the banks, law firms, and investment firms in 5-10 years in cities like Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, etc.

Just take a drive from one of those cities to 30A one Friday afternoon. You'll find yourself in a caravan of Bimmers and Cybertrucks occupied by young, attractive, successful couples and their well-behaved children. These were the fraternity men and sorority dimes of top-tier SEC houses in the 2010s, and the kids will likely pledge the same house in the 2030s.

It's a swanky and rarefied world, and becoming a part of it often starts on bid night freshman year.

Yeah, no thanks.

+1. I don't care how many pretty pom pom girls you put in a cyber truck. It is still so hideous.

$375 fee to Rush
$180 to Move in early (for On Campus housing)

Any sorority anywhere in any state is going to have Initiation Fees, New Member Fees, etc. and they list that at roughly $5K.

The remaining money is based on bloggers who assign values to the clothes and jewelry some of the girls are wearing.

So, to participate in Rush it's less than $600 and then when you join, you have to pay fees. I'd bet at the University of Kansas or USC these fees are pretty similar.

Thank You ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

If it helps anyone, I'm in New York right now and all the fake purse vendors have got knockoff of those dainty expensive bracelets.

Ew. The last thing in the world I want is for my daughters to marry a racist rich southern boy, be a stay at home mom with children in her 20s, and have to live in Alabama and vacation in Florida. That's my nightmare. I really hope my girls don't make this choice, gross, gross, gross.

Those kids are looking to party. Obviously if you go to Amherst or Princeton, you could care less about the SEC. If you go to Gettysburg or a school at that level, insecurity about SEC or Big 10s is a bad look. You just have to live and let live.

This is it. If you want your child to party and get married to some mid frat boy, then by all means, go for it. I'd like for my daughters to have careers and marry someone smart who respects her whole self and not just that she's cute, petite, and blonde.

Okay but what is so great about joining this expensive organization that only takes people that have a certain kind of bracelet?

My college DDs sometimes want the same bracelet or bag or shirt or shoes as the others. Human nature. But not to the point of being selected to join a club over it.

You sound really immature and as provincial as you likely imagine these Alabamans in your mind. This is not my world at all, but I have nieces and nephews who went to college and were in the Greek system in Alabama and theyโ€™re far more nuanced than you seem to think. Theyโ€™re bright and hardworking kids with moderate or left leaning political views, friends or partners from different races. Each one gainfully employed upon graduation.

They buy them on DHgate. All of that stuff is fake. I thought most people knew that. theyโ€™re dupes.

There is a reason Alabama ranks at the bottom of education

Anyone who sends a kid there is not bright.

Well, you don't seem bright.

What is this - the gilded age? Why do women have to aspire to marry power? Why can't they just earn and seize it for themselves? Why marry someone powerful "in the south" when you can be powerful yourself?

Also wtf wants to live in Birmingham?? I've been there and it's as dry as toast.

I think it just shows that those people have little minds, and that is their whole world. It's the same for people who never go more than 20 miles away from home. They live in a little world, which is their whole world. So, yea, in order to reach the upper echelons of their little world, they have to be in the in crowd. You have to fit the mold, physically, mentally, and morally. Sounds incredibly stifling.

This is worse than HS.

Anonymous wrote:^ Exactly look at the growth in Southern states people are flocking there. Only thing masking huge population loses in northern states is large unprecedented wave of illegal immigration.

You aren't as smart as you think you are.

People are moving to the south not because it's wonderful and has a plethora of highly educated people or high paying jobs. The people moving there are doing so because IT'S CHEAP, and there is a reason why it's CHEAP.

Also, illegal immigration is everywhere, including in GA, FL, TX.

Again, not as smart as you think you are.

Oh no, they live in a $500K mansion on Alabama, what losers! They couldn't afford my $2M apartment surrounded by rats and junkies!

Yes, they can't afford to live in an expensive city, hence why they live in a 500K mansion in AL. That tells you something. LOL

Well, you don't want to miss out on the swanky and rarefied world of marriage to a frat bro in the deep South.

Madam, your Cybertruck awaits!

Only low class people think driving in a dump truck is swanky.

Iโ€™d pay for the education before jewelry and partying

Au contraire. They are paying for the MRS degree.
