Dc is gorgeous. I’d do a few things:

— plant even more trees to increase shade in less well off areas. Eliminate concrete jungle feeling downtown… will also help freshen the air.
— I’m all for more security on metro and on buses. Teens at school dismissal can be extremely rough and fights break out. They made a huge mistake redoing the bus lines in my opinion. There are fewer, less convenient stops and more infrequent service. And if money was no object— make buses free.
— no camping/sleeping in or near libraries and playgrounds. Have a shuttle that bounces people to homeless shelters, and regularly picks homeless off the street.
- spray for mosquitos!
- rat abatement
- crack down on slumlords/abandoned property
-eliminate food trucks at the national mall

Take care of the problems where they are instead of pretending sending them to better neighborhoods will somehow make them better.

Improve schools across the city.

Make public transit free so people don't have to fare-jump. If a third of riders pay then get government funding to cover that third and let everyone ride for free.

Huge fines for little things like littering and other public nuisances.

+1!!!!!!!

Incarcerate the 1% of the population responsible for 80% of the crime.

1. Absolute zero tolerance for all crime. It will benefit everyone.
2. Clean up the city like Singapore where they shampoo the sidewalks each night. Pest control.
3. Improve public transportion. It’s too slow, too old, too dirty, too scattered.

Remove the occupying troops.

Do not hold gladiatorial events at the White House.

Make Fascism UnAmerican Again.

Bait traps for mosquitoes are waaay better than spraying which only gets like 10% of them while killing off pollinators. FWIW, I lived in DC then moved to Fairfax and had waaay more pollinators in my tiny patch of rowhouse front yard than I do in my Fairfax pollinator garden, sadly - likely due to people spraying and using more pesticides on their lawns in the 'burbs.

Less crime and better schools, including expanded free before- and after-school programs. That will keep more families living in and investing in the city instead of decamping for the suburbs.

Make the trash and recycling workers clean up after themselves! They dump things in and don't clean up when anything falls out.

Mosquito spraying.

Remove dead/dying trees immediately and keep the medians trimmed.

I agree- something needs to be done to keep families in DC. I also think adding more housing is part of the equation to do that.

1) Nurture regular family-friendly street markets and performances in select locations throughout the city. Think Eastern Market on weekends, but with more established businesses and locations. Union Market in NOMA is fabulous and should be a model that is more frequently used throughout the city.

2) Turn empty buildings and vacant lots into something fun and affordable. Not a bar or restaurant, of which there are plenty. Think climbing walls, outdoor gyms, breakdance cyphers, community art and performance spaces. Pay locals to hold outdoor classes like yoga, ballroom dancing, tai-chi, etc., in presently vacant spaces. More YMCAs.

3) Repeal recreational weed. Tax the hell out of stores selling synthetic drugs. Automated enforcement for ATVs and dirt bikes driving dangerously. Heavy consequences for violence and firearm crimes.

4) Deep clean and repaint public facilities and federal buildings, including metro stations. Do not demolish or rebuild, as this is more expensive and erases history. But a deep clean, fresh coat of paint, and minor repairs will help make the city look like it should.

Take serious action against mosquitoes. The mosquitoes are a major problem for any sort of outdoor activity. No harmful-to-human chemicals are needed, just mosquito larvacide throughout the city, repeatedly.
