Nobody said anything about locking them in a room you sick freak. |
No one is bigger than Trump’s chumps because he is federal level. Of course the school board is awful. It was clear in 2023 when this started that it would be a disaster. I wrote to them and said they were shooting FCPS in the foot because this was a HORRIBLE time to attempt this. But the posters on here arguing for vouchers are just as short sighted as the school board because they cannot answer how vouchers is going to help them with their anger on this and help the community. With a fractured school system (charters, privates etc) everyone’s real estate will tank every more than with the school board policy. |
Geez, I”m not a sick freak, I’m arguing against it and yes, a post had that written. I guess it has been deleted, which is good. You can delete mine too. |
Are you drunk already? |
Yes, and that is why I included the statement “chair throwers need a different environment” Leaving the schools is different than destroying the system with vouchers. |
Did the school system play no role in why you bought in Fairfax? With a school system like DCPS, would you still have bought it? If you knew you had to drive across the county to attend the charter school your lotteried into, would you be happy? |
I suspect most of these people don't really want vouchers, but believe that a threat to defund FCPS is about the only thing that might cause some of those currently running FCPS to re-examine their behavior and priorities. Of course, that threat has to be viable, but when you've got both the Federal government and various state officials lining up behind expanded vouchers, it has more teeth than it would have if it were just the pipe dream of a DCUM poster. |
It would help by giving us better access to schools that keep children in classrooms for instruction, and have schedules and policies that respect parents. Is that mostly clear? |
Maybe I missed it, but where is this $13k number coming from? Our household pays about $8k a year in property taxes to the county. I know that the county spends a little more than half of their budget on the school system. FCPS gets a much smaller percentage from the state and an even smaller percentage from the feds. It seems to me a voucher would be less than $13k. |
That’s why I posted the link to wapo. This ain’t some pipe dream, there is now a mechanism in place for vouchers at the federal level. FCPS has a limited window to right the ship, starting with halting the boundary change nonsense. I also find it humorous that some posters think that because there aren’t enough private school options now that there won’t be in a few years. And btw, we aren’t sending our kids private now, so it’s also not a money grab as some posters claim but frankly vouchers get more and more appealing as we hear more about the SB’s plans. I wish I could just support a school system that cared about all kids including my kids rather than them viewing my kids as a resource to be deployed to help other kids achieve some minimal benchmark. |
I’m sorry. No private school worth its weight is going to be opening its doors to FCPS refugees with vouchers in hand. You are being optimistic. |
What’s the alternative? Blind support for a system which doesn’t value parents? |
You can smell those who aren't at risk of unnecessary redistricting and are zoned for schools that haven't been shortchanged by the FCPS powers-that-be. It kind of reeks. |
And the school board shills who will do their bidding for them too. |
| I find it fascinating that every time I call out a certain someone on this board, that individual gets the post deleted. That's all I need to know about who it is that is posting all these election year threads. By getting those posts deleted, you're confirming it's you. |
