Will be weird but for players they will want to goto the college showcase/national's in the summer. Won’t be a big deal. One last go with old friends and teammates. |
For our daughter who is still U-little, fall 2014. Her club just went ahead and make school year teams for this year. They'll just play up. She's already thought been asked to guest play with her old BY team, something she's delighted to do because why not go play with your old friends while you're making new friends! Maybe my perspective is skewed because my kid is super young, but none of this seems like that big of deal to me. |
Smart idea from the club. If you have parents that don't mind losses this is the way to get a jump on everyone else. |
Not the end of the world but it still is not great for the average level player with an August birthday that won't get to play with either his SY, the team they have been with for years or the majority of the kids their BY. Not everyone is worried about college I'd sessions. I understand there has to be a cutoff but 8/1 was probably the worst choice |
It’s definitely going to be a big deal once it’s official and new players start showing up and players/families start realizing they are on their way out or going from starter to bench player. Some teams are going to be completely transformed and unrecognizable from the spring season before. The world of youth soccer will shake and then settle, people will realize everything will be okay. |
When their level of play and production in the field goes up they will get over it. If they are too good they can always play up. |
Hold up - did someone earlier say there are kids using HGH? Or was that said in jest? Please say that's not really happening. |
If your kids not in HGH they are a rec player. Now here’s clip about MLSN BY https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lMbhMm4dmA0 |
Worst choice for your kid. Not as a whole. But no matter what, someone is going to be upset. |

Fact: The registration system for my son's futsal team has already been updated to group by SY. Tryouts are next week. Birthdays in August are being placed with the younger birth year. August 2012 has tryouts with the 2013 team.
Speculation: Come Spring, registration systems will have been updated to use SY. August - December bdays will be registered with the younger birth year teams. Speculation 2: ECNL/RL teams will play the second half of the season (April - June) using SY. Lower teams, NPL, flights 1, 2, 3... will play Summer tournaments using SY. |
Which futsal club already starting tryout next week? |
Agreed 9/1 was the better choice. 🫡 |
9/1+30/60 is even better. You get the 9/1 cutoff but if players can prove their grade and were born 30 or 60 days before 9/1 they can play with that group. This addresses players playing down and also gets rid of the edge case trapped players. |
8 pages in and the 60+ guy is back! This thread is going to the moon! |
