Given WW3, should we cancel Europe travel plans

Sure but that was 50 plus years ago. Achiie Lauro could not happen now because of defensive measures of cruise ships. Same way no one will take over a plane with box cutters. A bomb on a plane? World has changed and much harder. Sure not impossible but not at all likely.

Former diplomat poster above. That's exactly what went through my mind. Rome airport too - I knew a flight attendant who was there. It wouldn't stop me from traveling on OP's plan, but terrorism increases in these situations, yes.

Actually terrorism does not increase in these situations. Not at all. It i snot like the terrorists had a plan and the material and now will go active. Terrorism may increase more than a year after trigger events because it will take that time to dome something dramatic. Not jobs may attack with a gun or knife but that can happen a Metro station in DC. But blowing up a plane or an airport? Long way away from that. Also not at all clear that most Arab groups -- terror or otherwise would be upset with Iran being hurt. Most would cheer.

We have canceled our flights to return to the US. Lucky for me, my DH is EU. Looking at properties to buy today and going to sell our house in VA. Relative will oversea the packing of the one container of belongs we will ship; remainder is estate sale/donation.

We are going to England in October. I planned this trip about a year ago and in January I wanted to cancel. I didn’t, and recently started making plans in earnest and was glad I didn’t cancel. Now I’m back to feeling concerned again. But we are planning on going.

And when has Islamic/Palestinian terror ever not been a problem/threat to the West, whether in the U.S., Europe, or elsewhere around the globe? It's omnipresent, but the chances of it affecting any given individual are minute. Small comfort for the individual harmed in a terror attack, but the numbers so affected are probably massively smaller than the numbers of Americans who are injured or who die in accidents abroad.
