I could support that 100%. |
So, just playing this out here, let's say Maryland announced that it was going to give every black person $1 million. Wouldn't that mean that every black person would suddenly move to Maryland to try to collect a check? |
Think of all the property, sales, and income tax this would generate! The program would pay for itself! |
I’d be willing to chip in if decendants of slavery agree to the following after getting paid:
1) stop complaining 2) drop the victim hood mentality 3) take accountability for broken households and abysmal educational results Sadly - that would never happen even if descendants got 1, 2, even 10 million each |
Breaking news. Maryland given to Denmark as part of the deal to acquire Greenland. |
An unfair trade. Denmark would be acquiring a liability instead of a benefit. |
I feel that if there is a check given then there should be another condition which is that they must move to Africa. (I’m sure that most African countries would welcome them and their money with open arms.) If they say their family was happy in Africa and they would have preferred to stay there, then let them move back to Africa and then make them and their descendants ineligible to live in the US ever again.
Personally I think most of the slaves would have accepted a life of slavery in the US to know that their descendants would live in the richest country on earth and have opportunities here. Even the poorest person in the US lives better than the well off people in Africa. I know that I would make that decision in a second, and I’m sure that millions of people in Africa would too. It’s fine to say that they weren’t given a choice, and that’s why we need to pay, but they shouldn’t have their cake and eat it too. |
It’s amazing how this topic really brings out the POS racists. |
WTAF? You are fcked in the head. |
There was, and still reportedly is, slavery in Africa and in other countries. The U.S. was hardly unique in importing or exploiting slaves. Slavery was common globally in bygone times. Unacceptable by modern sensibilities and standards but hardly a phenomenon limited to the colonies. Slavery no longer exists in the U.S. Nobody alive today was a slave in the U.S. The culture and legal landscape have changed. Time to move on. |
Do you know that you're a gigantic POS racist, or are you one of those people who says "oh but I have/had a black friend"? JFC, this is unbelievable. I'm black, and presumably the descendant of slaves (but also so much more). I think reparations are absurd and impossible to implement, but what you are saying is pretty awful. Maybe you should do some soul searching to figure out why you are so misguided. Not to mention ignorant in so many ways. Here's a tip: Africa a is a friggin' continent with countries that--wait for it--don't have majority black populations. It's not a monolithic place. I'm quite sure you'd willingly spend your life being starved, whipped, raped, and having your children sold just so that your great-great-great-great grandaughter could have a better life. Moron. |
No kidding. Maybe she'd like to be part of today's sex slavery trade and see if her descendants can wrangle themselves a nice life in Switzerland or Norway, both of which report a better lifestyle than the US. |
The ignorance and stupidity of some of you never fails to amaze me. |
This. There are also people like my DH, who can prove the lineage back to slavery. But three generations ago his female ancestor married a European. Since then there were numerous interracial marriages, the result of which is that everyone in his family passed the "brown paper bag" test and has been a successful professional (think physicians, professors, etc) for several generations. Do you think someone whose family is in the 1% should get reparations? (He certainly doesn't think so) |
