The child was being treated in Houston at Texas Children's Hospital. Each time they traveled from the Rio Grande Valley to Houston, they went through a checkpoint where they presente a letter from the hospital explaining the child's need for care. She developed symptoms on Feb 3 and the family headed to the hospital. Sara, the child with the cancer, wears a leg brace. Her parents have a nasal spray to give her if she has a seizure (this is probably nasal valium, something I have heard about because I have a niece with epilepsy and frequent seizures).

They had always been let through the checkpoint until that day. They were taken into custody and some of their treatment by officers was appalling--including taking away the emergency seizure nasal medication and locking it up, where the next shift could ot find it. (Their son, who has acne, was told by one officer he needed to masturbate more.)

Once in Mexico, Mexican authorities arranged for taxi transportation to a secure shelter to protect them from kidnappers who infest the area; according to the complaint, US citizens (two of the children) are at particular risk of kidnapping. They saw bodies in the streets in the area near the shelter.

Was the complaint filed against the Mexican government? The parents were here illegally and were deported. They chose to stay together as a family and have their US citizen children travel with them to Mexico. Mexico is responsible for their safety.

Agents of the Mexican government weren’t the ones taking away the lifesaving drugs of a U.S. citizen. At least use baseline reading comprehension before spewing hate.

If the complaint was about the medicine, why does it mention the risk of kidnapping? How about you apply baseline reading comprehension before posting. There was nothing hateful in what was posted. Try a different tactic since logic isn't on your side.

Read the complaint. It’s extremely clear what actions the agents of the U.S. government undertook, and unless you are asserting they work for the Mexican government, I don’t know why the government of Mexico would be responsible for their actions.

Because the parents are Mexican citizens!!! Jesus Christ. This is why the border needs to shut down and USAID needs to be dismantled. The US is not the caretaker of every person on the planet.

I’m sick of these sob stories.

Honestly I think we’ve created a situation of learned helplessness. We’ve expected so little from parents that they aren’t doing some basic basic stuff.

Yes, "there but for the Grace of God go I" definitely doesn't apply here! WE would have been smarter, better prepared, able to handle anything and we NEVER make choices that don't work out.

Oh, and also let's punish the fellow CIITIZEN CHILD because the parents didn't have the BRAINS and MORALS we would have to get our child CANCER TREATMENT THE RIGHT WAY.

She’s only a citizen because her parents snuck here illegally and had anchor babies. I also guarantee she does not have any insurance and the family is not actually paying for her care. The US taxpayers are.

Yeah, screw those sick anchor babies! They’re just dragging down our society.

You’re so right! Why don’t we just pay for all the cancer treatment for every living being in earth!! Why stop here????

Or US citizens, which this child is, just not up to your standards.

No. I also do not agree that all US Citizens should have free healthcare.

Citation that she’s receiving free healthcare and doesn’t have insurance? Just fanfiction?

Since you mention Jesus Christ, what do you think he would have said about detaining a sick child?

How would the parents who have no legal status enroll in health insurance in this country?

You mean free health insurance? Paid for by US taxpayers? Or you think undocumented produce pickers (per several news articles) are PAYING for their kids to have health insurance? GMAFB.

So, is your contention that she doesn’t have insurance and is receiving free care, or that she’s insured but somehow not entitled to the same Medicaid benefits as any other U.S. citizen because you’re mad at her parents? Could you pick one?

Cool. Your guy already tried that and lost in court. Try a constitutional amendment.

Until then, people are citizens even if you’re mad at their parents. Feel comforted in the fact that U.S. taxpayers fund the healthcare of 67.3M Americans over 65 and you probably don’t agree with the decisions all of their parents made either.

I'm pretty sure the case is making its way to the SCOTUS.

I believe every American citizen should have free healthcare but birthright citizenship has to go.

Well. It’s not their “fault” but having a US Citzen child is not and should not be a way for those without legal status to remain in the US. So, they must go.

The open cruelty on this board still astonishes me.

Please elaborate on how that is open cruelty.

I would never sneak into another country illegally, have a baby, and then expect the country to allow me to stay because my child happened to be born there. We’ve lost the plot.

NP. I love how these people pretend to care about illegality, but only when it applies to poor, desperate, brown people.

Not only are you incredibly ignorant, you also advertise it.
