The grift is just beginning. Wait and see how many things only Elon's company can provide.

We’ll all be subs to Palantir soon. Too bad for all the small businesses that were subs to the big 10 named. Most of them don’t have cash flow to wait out this insanity.

We don’t have kids (and won’t be, in light of the current economy) and my husband’s stable job is here, but i also am so depressed and wish I could leave. We also just bought a house.

Why would you hold off having kids.

That doesn't make sense, especially if you are looking at a situation where one patent might be home for a few years.

Do you have kids? Responsible people do not want to bring children into an unstable chaotic world.

If that were the case, no one would ever have kids. The world has always been unstable and chaotic, we in the US have just been somewhat insulated from it for some part of recent decades.

I say this with much kindness. Please take a deep breath and consider talking through your feelings with a therapist. If you really wanted children and have limited time, don’t make the decision not to have them, or even just one, because of Trump. Children were born even during the Great Depression and World War 2. I had my son just before I got too old, and while he has been a difficult child in some ways, he has also brought much joy. I think he makes our small corner of the world a better place.

Ironic, too, since Vance is pushing for people to have more kids, not just one.

But, yea, having kids on one salary and saving for college and retirement in a hcol is very difficult. And if both are feds on the chopping block.. forget it. Or are you advocating for people to have kids while they are unemployed, with Mump gutting social welfare?

As feds, we didn't make enough to fund IVF or to pursue adoption, so we just gave up that dream of having kids, since I couldn't conceive naturally.

This is the first time I've actually been happy about not having kids, there is no way we could afford to live in the area, have one person unemployed and still feed ourselves if we had kids.

This is such bullshit. Two GS-9 Feds can make $150K combined. That's early career salaries.

Did you see the WSJ article about Booz? “98% revenue from govt” in scare quotes. Hatchet job.

It sounds like you have not seen much of the world.

What do I know, an immigrant born and raised in another country for half my life.

The fact that your country might be even worse than the US does not make the latter “the luckiest place”.

80% of the population of Asia, Africa, Middle East and South America would come to USA in a heartbeat if given the opportunity.

Actually there is a 94 year old guy in Omaha who is calls being born in USA winning the "Ovarian Lottery" and "The babies being born in America today are the luckiest crop in history."

But people living in million dollar homes, driving nice sedans, sipping lattes and listening to Spotify playlists, think they have it pretty bad.

Yes those people just got fired. Why do you hate Americans so much?

I think the old fashion American values and grace is disappearing. The greedy businesses and Free Trade politicians sold out and sent jobs overseas, devastating communities. Lack of opportunities and lower level of education is driving this hate and jealousy.

Right. And after housing and student loans, that isn't going to leave enough for IVF.

You don't seem to understand what anything costs these days.

That is quite the victim mentality you have going on there! You need to own your choices. And your employer and place of residence are choices.

IVF is covered under federal health insurance policies, up to $25k or so, for most carriers.

Since *2023*

Ten years too late for us. It is what it is.

Yeah, I was going to point out that this was super recent. I struggle to have kids as a Fed, paid for intervention, etc. My kids are still young — 10, 8 & 6 — and no government health care covered IVF and I got no maternity leave for any of my kids. As recently as 6 years ago, things were totally different in this area.

I am truly sorry for their loss. I have nothing but sympathy for them and hope all of them land in jobs where they are respected and treated well, unlike how Musk and Trump are treating them.

The point I was trying to make is directed at people with jobs who are denigrating America. Yes, Trump and Musk are As*h**** and yes they may do some really bad things in the interim but America is still a wonderful place to be, despite them.

Wishing you all the best.

Exactly. I am almost sad for those that can't see it. Sure there is inefficiency and bloat but that means jobs and a functioning economy. When 4 oligarchs are the only beneficiaries..your smugness may take a turn.

The situation you described did not occur by ignoring politics. Politics created it. Politics is now creating the next thing. You can ignore politics but it won’t ignore you.

Same. And I’m on a long-term, stable contact - it’s just crappy timing. The contract I’m on fills a critical national security gap, and no one in govt or the private sector does it or can/could do it without years and tens of millions of dollars in new investments. The public doesn’t know what my co-workers and I do — they’ve never even heard of us. And that’s a good thing, because our job is to keep them safe and to protect this country, so not knowing about us means we are accomplishing our mission. But we could be gone in a few weeks… we don’t know yet.

Incredible that 20 year old tech sector software guys are going to decide if that's more valuable than tax cuts to billionaires.

Maybe OP and her spouse were GS-3 or something? Why are you assuming GS-9?

Even before reading this post I've been thinking we'll have a terrorist attack on our soil within the next 4 years.
