Closing USAID

The money is typically 100% support, with no strings attached, that is, free money to citizens in other countries. I believe that charity is a wonderful thing, until and unless it eventually causes potential corruption and out of control spending.

Maybe it did not need to be put at a full stop but someone needs to take a second look at how it's run. In fact, we have a lot of federal departments that should be evaluated. We should have a legit process in doing it which I definitely believe we won't have under Trump & co., but the idea that USAID and all these agencies should and can just go on till infinity running the way they are currently is contributing to the downfall of the US. The spending must stop. It is as nuts as Trump is in a manner of speaking.

If you compare the amount of money spent on USAID vs the military, it is indeed a drop in the bucket. Your post reveals your ignorance.

At least the US military defends our country and even can provide cool fly overs at sporting events.

I literally cannot think of one thing USAID has done to benefit America.

I mean, if we are good will hunting obviously 9/11 and hundreds of attacks happen on us all the time around the world…so that is not a benefit.

You shouldn't even post. You have no idea what you are talking about. Handing loads of cash out is the purview of the CIA.

These are local social service organizations which receive funding to administer government contracted services. How on earth is the fact that reputable organizations are doing what Congress asked them to do through legislation a bad thing?

Lutheran Services works with refugees. I helped out some afghani refugees with assistance with Lutheran Services.

Elon has no context for what these contracts and payments are for because HE ISN'T A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE! He’s randomly looking at payments and trying to justify his illegal activity by making people angry. He’s such a tool!

Where did I get signed up to pay for this as a tax payer? Oh, I didn't.

Not a legitimate function of fed.gov. Cut it.

You can feel that way. It certainly sounds like the administration believes it. So they have to go through the proper channels to deauthorize the programs. And groups like Lutheran Services are already on the ground or working issues that were a priority to a legally elected administration. It saved the government money to fund groups already in place rather than build the infrastructure themselves. You seem to think the people who are horrified think that all of the previous administration’s priorities were fabulous. We don’t. But we swore to uphold the law and swore an oath to the constitution. So people are putting on their big boy and girl pants and upholding their oaths. Hopefully when this is a blip in the rear view mirror I can take great joy in the settlements that will have to be made with the people getting removed and fired.

Finally, an end to NGO crimes. Now investigate and hold them accountable.

Not sure why this would be money laundering. They are like a domestic Red Cross.

You have no idea how recipient reporting on government grants works either.

Some of you are clueless what those services cover! I hope you never need to become refugee yourself!

US AID budget is 1% of the DOD budget.

If you want to know how aid works (or worked, I guess, because it died this weekend) you can find out. It used to all be on public websites.

USAID puts out a request for proposals. They say what work they want done (distribute malaria nets, feed refugees, de-mine villages) and organizations bid for the work. It is a competitive process and much less room for funny business than the private sector. The winner does the work. The program is then audited on how it spends the money and must provide financial and programmatic reports every quarter.

Just because you have never bothered to learn about the process does not mean there is no legit process.

What kind of money are we talking, OP?

Which countries no longer have starving children as a result of all this funneled cash?

Wow. I often wonder how people could have voted for Trump. Then I read a response like this and see there really are awful, cold hearted people out there!

NP. Our own kids are hungry

Oh, will we be feeding them with the saved cash? lol

So give that 1% to DOD.

Wasn’t the US military the ones that built that floating port in Gaza (that kept on sinking or floating away)?

Why didn’t USAID pay for that if that is their mission?

I am not against foreign aid, but that agency did not seem very effective if probably 95% of the population did not know they existed/anything they have done to help our country.

Seems smart to cut stuff like this agency or at least make sure whatever it is they do is being done for best ROI.

If nothing else it provided cover for our undercover CIA operatives to collect intelligence for our military. All those agents are probably exposed now.

Foreign Aid is a part of national security. Honestly, the insistence parroting of whatever Elon says is insane. Congress controls funds, just because Johnson has bent over for these guys doesnt make it legal. What he is doing is illegal and he's tweeting nonsense for people like you to eat up.
