The captain of a ship is charged if the ship runs aground, even though the captain can’t control every action of every member of the crew. Parents are the captains of the family ship and they should be held responsible if a member of the family commits a heinous crime. |
I read that they gave her the gun for her birthday. |
You have a cite for that ? |
The family knows where she got the gun. And if not they know where she got the money. And if they don’t know either of these things, they are not paying nearly enough attention to their mentally child. Parents need to know where their children’s money is going for lots of reasons, not just guns. But a huge swath of parents really suck these days, even in “nice” neighborhoods. |
I’m sure they are feeling all kinds of regret right now. That doesn’t mean they are not at fault. |
DP. Look there can be exceptions for the parents who were truly exhausting all options to get their kid help and the kid managed to get a gun from outside the home. But let’s be real. 99% of the time it ends up being a parent’s gun and often there were warning signs yet the parents still allowed access to a gun. That is criminally negligent. Even if your kid isn’t mentally ill, all guns should be locked in a biometric safe with ammo stores separately. That is the minimum adults should do. If you have a mentally ill kid in the house then you probably shouldn’t have guns at all. Lock.them.up. And let them get civilly sued for every penny they have worked the save their entire lives. |
So we should start charging parents for not paying attention to their kids? That's not going to work in many cases. |
Oh well, nothing we can do |
Keep up. |
She goes by “Samantha” but that isn’t her given name? Why is this |
If their neglect causes violence or harm to others, absolutely. Drunk driver and street racer teens’ parents should be charged too. Your child is YOUR responsibility, especially if you are providing them guns and cars. |
Guarantee it is going to come out that it was a parent or relative’s gun, or they were otherwise aware of the gun’s existence. I’m calling it now. 12/17/24 at 9:12am. |
A manifesto was found blaming the father. Something along the lines of his willful ignorance allowed her to obtain it. From what I saw this morning, heavy dislike of males as well. |
Police have said it was posted online by someone else and they can’t yet confirm it’s authenticity. |
I’m the pp. I just went back to look. I read so much yesterday and it was all over twitter. I’m reading it on Twitter right now, and I don’t see any credible sources reporting it so I may want to backtrack on this. |
