Same for my kids high school principal… |
| What is east county? Does this include Wood/Rockville? We love our elementary school but are hearing much more mixed things about the middle and high school. |
No, east county is roughly the areas on both sides of the Route 29 corridor from Silver Spring to Burtonsville. |
Sad to think back to when I was in HS, and the reputation of MCPS was one of the best -‘if not the best - public school systems in the entire US. MCPS appears to be circling the drain at the moment, while the board and the principals cheer on MCPS’ demise. |
| It’s still one of the best, which really says a lot. |
According to Niche, it’s 419. Now, there are 10,500 districts in the USA, so I guess it’s good to be in the top 5%, but I still want to know about the 418 districts that are better. https://www.niche.com/k12/d/montgomery-county-public-schools-md/rankings/ |
And there is no end in sight. It will cost us all more, too. |
I guess you haven't heard of autocorrect? And you should be one to talk, sir. You complain about me being on this website too much? Maybe you should hop off and check in with your kid to find out what is happening in their world. Having conversations with your kid is not being a helicopter parent. In fact, it is highly recommended as it builds trust. |
Now look at all the ones that are above MCPS, I bet you that 95% or more have fewer than 20,000 students. |
Here’s a sample: Howard County, 57,000, 323 nationally Katy County, TX, 92,000, 108 nationally Frisco County, TX, 66,000; 165 nationally Forsyth County, GA, 54,000; 230 nationally Maybe MCPS could look at why some of those other large districts do so much better. |
DP but what do you think you have proven? You just made the poster point? |
I didn’t at all. PP argued most of the better districts would have under 20,000 students. I gave examples of pretty big districts that are ranked a lot higher than MCPS. Stop making excuses for why MCPS is terrible. |

My kids is in Jackson Reed. Can't be worse than JR. My kid mentions no problems and if there are some, he takes them like a champ.
He definitely doesn't come home complaining. I ignore the e-mails. Always have. OP, you sound slightly delicate. Wait til the kid gets into real world. Let go every day because of someone else. |
You sound really engaged, ignoring all those emails. |
Well, PP point still stand. Just because you're not too bright, doesn't make it an excuse for MCPS. |
