Do you know your IQ?

Then you don’t have an IQ higher than 98% of the population. SAT is not a difficult test for smart people.

Some of us have standardized test anxiety.

I have a 147 IQ. I know because I was tested for a gifted program as a kid.

I didn’t do as well on the SAT as my IQ would suggest.

I have no clue what my IQ is. Do you? How do you test it?

I think I saw this too. Which show?

PP answering my own question. It was the main character on High Potential.

Yeah, that show is pointing out. The law of diminishing returns with intelligence which happens around 140 and she’s 160 which means she has a hard time functioning in society.

Yup, that’s my husband - a 160.
I think I’m around 140.

There's some confirmation bias. Those of us who scored well don't mind answering the question. But also, let's not forget the demographics of the DC are and DCUM. We are more highly educated than the average, and the IQ test definitely shows privilege bias.

Is IQ something you were born with? Or is it increased with education?

Advocates for test say it is genetic. Common sense says it is a human construct and fundamentally bias toward the culture of the dominate class. If it is something that can be studied for (it is) then you are not born with it. One is trained into it, either explicitly by studying or implicitly by the way one’s parents raise them. Many, many, many studies show the tests used in the US are bias toward the white affluent. If one is from a different background their word choices will be different, their descriptions will be different, the puzzles they are trained to solve will be different, etc.

Then why do adoptees have iqs that are more similar to their birth mothers than their adoptive parents?

My mom told me I got over 140. I believe lifelong ADHD has made that number irrelevant.

An iq above 140 is considered genius level. I find it pretty sus that pretty much every responder to this question is a certified genius.

Ahhhhh DCUM. Where 100% of posts are about 2-3 standard deviations above the mean IQ for the smartest countries in the world.

Yeah, sure....

There’s a selection effect that those of us with high IQs (and probably lower EQs) love to post about this since we can’t ever say anything in real life.

Then again, I’ve been tested a number of times and land in the 140s — but a long-time friend of mine is over 200 and is truly that brilliant and surprisingly personable, so I’m humble about my own IQ.

hahaha I know, right!? Totally hilarious. Everyone is a genius on DCUM.

It's even funnier since it's anonymous.

I did GATE and we had to do a test to get in but I don’t know if it was an iq test and, if it was, I have no idea what my score was.

Did fine in school and I feel confident in my ability to navigate the world as an adult but I’m not out here doing math for fun or curing cancer in my free time. Definitively no indication that I’m wildly brilliant.

Anyway totally fine representing the smart enough to have a good career and interact well with others but dumb enough to enjoy tiktok and bad tv contingent of dcum users!

My mom told me that I was the prettiest girl in the whole country. If my mom said it I knew it had to be true.

I have no idea but I never tested well such as 1100 SATs, maybe lower. I had a word processing problem so even today I often have to read over a newspaper paragraph three times to fully absorb it. However, I’m now retired after an incredibly successful career - CEO of two well known companies- so a high IQ isn’t everything. Or, maybe I had a high IQ but never knew it!

I’ve often wondered that. My mother has minimal education due to her circumstances growing up, but she’s much more intelligent than any of her children. We’ve all had far more education than her.

There are many types of intelligence of course. I’m not sure how useful these scores are. I would guess they are far too simplistic.

Very true. I had a job where I worked with second generation immigrants (none had higher degrees and worked for those of us who did) and I felt like most of them were smarter than most of us but none of them had had the same opportunities so it reminded me of: give me the confidence of a mediocre man. Like many of us, we're where we are because of a combination of things.

I think straight intelligence used to be held in more importance. Determination, maturity, emotional intelligence and integrity matter more for success, having the Big Five personality traits.

I was tested in third grade. The school psychologist yelled at me during the test which was all orally given and the whole experience was awful. I would be curious to know the score though.

Maybe. But the scores people are posting are exaggerated. It doesn’t take a genius with a high IQ to see that. It’s embarrassing.

+1

The DMV is filled to the brim with people and their kids who have IQs above Einstein’s. According to those posting here.

lol. Unlikely.

But if you think being a super genius makes you super competent, etc., guess again. My father was brilliant, but EQ stunted. It is hard to hold a regular conversation with someone who intellectualizes everything.

My brilliant father (200) is in his third marriage. He’s cut off his mother, his sister, and his daughter among others. Emotional T Rex

One of my sons to my surprise has an IQ of 104. All of his life, people marveled at his intelligence, vocabulary etc. He made excellent grades and is very successful in his career.

🤷‍♀️

lol, y’all are too much. Einstein’s IQ has been estimated to be between 150 and 160. And your dad is at 200? Yeah, right.
