13 yo daughter’s bday party

Adding that there is a difference between learning the TikTok dances and actually posting them on TikTok.

For instance, my DD (12) and her friends all learn the TikTok dances, which the entire school does at the middle school dancers. Think Macarena, Electric Slide or Cha Cha Slide. Or when I was in 7th grade, my friends and I all learned the dance to "Venus" by Bananarama off the music video and would dance together. We performed a Billy Ocean song similarly in the school talent show.

It's just kids dancing in a group...it's not nefarious. The dances start on TikTok but quickly spread out so even those without a phone - like my DD - learn and dance and laugh doing them.
Anonymous
When I saw think Cha Cha Slide...that is not on Tiktok, but there are many dances on TikTok that are similar. Everyone knows the song and dance.

Like Chappel Roan's Hot to Go - it's the new YMCA.

Yeah, I would be not thrilled if my 13 year old went to a party where the parents were encouraging posting tiktok dances wtf.

This obsession of turning your CHILDREN into adults at 9-10 is so wrong.

Keep up, this thread is about 13 year olds not 9-10 year olds. Your obsession with teenagers remaining in a child like state is creepy and gives pedo vibes.

We're creepy because we want our kids to be kids? That's a new one.

You are creepy because you pop up in every thread about teen girls specifically talking about how they need to stay “kids”, even when what is being discussed is age and developmentally appropriate. There is definitely something off about not understanding that a teenager is going to trend toward more adult interests/styles, etc. than an elementary school aged child.

Oh the horror that I want my kid to act like a kid and not automatically jump to teen like or adult like interests. Are you saying that there is something wrong with kids/ young teens who still have kid interests?

I actually don’t think you have tween/teen girls, you just like to troll on DCUM about how they should stay “kids”. Your posting style is distinct and you are all over threads related to tween/teen girls repeating your mantra that they should stay “kids”. And yes, as the parent of actual tween/teen girls, I find that creepy AF.

Nope, must be someone else. But, I do stand by kids should be kids as long as they can

🙄 Sure it’s not you. “Kids should be kids” is your generic mantra that never acknowledges that childhood is a spectrum. A 6 year old is different from a 10 year old who is different from a 14 year old. But since you’re a troll you never engage past your mantra.

Of course kids should be kids, I don't know why anyone would debate that or disagree. And yes, there are differences and stages in childhood, but there is also such a thing as kids growing up too fast or acting older than they should.

What are you objecting to in this thread? Going out to eat is too grown up? Making bracelets? Tie dying shirts? Scavenger hunts? Dave & Busters? What are you even talking about? Nobody is suggesting doing shots at a bar, going on a group date, getting Botox, tattoos, etc. What is too adult in here?

Nothing is too adult, but suggesting fortnite and tiktok at 13 is not what I'd want my kids to be doing. Also, there was a poster making fun of teens acting child like or child like suggestions.

Suggesting construction paper and crayons for teens is patently absurd. Other than that there has not been an age inappropriate suggestion. You may not like TikTok or Fortnite but it’s beyond naive (or just your perspective based on not actually having teens) to think those aren’t things the majority of 13 year olds use.

Not to mention nobody even mentioned Fortnite in here until the PP brought it up. They have no legit gripe in here so they’re making things up to fit the narrative they want that kids are acting “too adult” even though nobody suggested any actual adult activities.

If you want your kid to act more "mature" at only 13, go ahead, but I'm going to let my kid act like a kid and enjoy their childhood.

You still haven’t even said what is too mature. You’re the only one talking about fortnite. Do your kids not eat? Watch movies? Paint? Do you even have kids? I doubt it.

Well, i don't think that kids need more screens than they already have. Plus I do think tiktok and other forms of socal media are too mature for kids. This only started because I commented on someone who said we have a weird obsession with keep kids childlike, which I think is a very strange take.

What does this have to do with asking what to do with a 13yo party? You’re off topic and just getting on your soapbox. Nobody has suggested to pass out the screens and let them stare at them as a party activity. Troll elsewhere.

Yes, most 13 year olds have TikTok. All of the parents might not know about it, but the majority of 13 year olds have TikTok.

Yeah a majority of 13 year olds with “cool moms” have tik tok. Unlike those kids whose parents have boundaries and recognize age appropriate activities.

Oh sweetie you must be one of those clueless moms. I personally know of multiple teens that have TikTok and Instagram whose parents love to get on their high horse and say oh I don’t let my kids on social media. Those same
parents also say my child would never be devious and go behind my back and hide it on their phone. Meanwhile, my kid shows me those friends’ secret accounts. But sure, stay in your bubble have no idea what your kid is doing on social media.
