Can y'all elaborate on what you are finding to be so American? Aside from the inclusion of Lady Gaga, I'm not seeing it.

Phelps, Serena, Carl Lewis, big boat for USA but a shared boat for the large Chinese and Canadian teams.

U.S got their own boat because they were entering as a country hosting the 2028 Olympics, that’s why they came in in the order they did. Not everything is a conspiracy. As for Phelps, they showed him when they showed how gold medals were made and well no one got more golds than Phelps.

Peyton Manning and Kelly Clarkson were absolutely terrible choices for commentary

They sent Colin Jost to Tahiti for the surfing competitions…

That was a good show. Well done, Paris

I thought that was a joke! But what happened to their notes? Did they not have them at all, as in not provided by the French Olympic Committee? Or did they not review, prepare...? There was no excuse for this lack of insight and info. Then towards the end, they did seem to get it together.

Neat idea.
Well executed.
The speeches part was way too long.
Celine singing Hymne a l'amour shook my soul!

I think it's a bit weird to bring in these multimillionaire tennis professionals. I think the Olympics should stick to sports where an Olympic gold is the pinnacle for that sport e.g swimming, track and field, rowing or gymnastics.

Young tennis players dream first about winning Wimbledon or a Grand Slam, not the Olympics. Golfers dream of winning the Masters or the British Open or US Open. Soccer players dream of winning the World Cup - for men the Olympics is only an under 23 tournament so many of the world's best players aren't there.

I teared up. That was obviously very meaningful to Celine Dion.

I sobbed when Celine came on. Beautiful performance. I thought it was all really well done.

I didn’t realize Céline was going to be there and it made me cry. 🥲

So beautiful.

I cannot watch the Olympics without crying.

t they’ve dreamed for this
Moment the entire lives. It only happens every four years and the chances of returning are slim. I think they’re entitled to record one of the biggest moments of their lives from their own vantage point.

I honestly feel dumber for having listened to anything Kelly and Peyton said. It was just space filler and so amateurish.

For a couple minutes, sure.
But why not live in the moment for 99% of it?
It's not like brides and grooms are hand recording their vows. The professional footage will bring back the memories.

I don't get why future hosts sailed along next to last, particularly Australia 2032. I've seen this done for the closing ceremony when they pass the flag to the mayor of the next host city and their team marches in last, but why was it done for the opening ceremony and why was it done for the next two countries to host games?

In the past, it's always been Greece first and the host country last for the opening ceremony.
