What's with the trend of not washing hair everyday?

Ok, but what about the smell? People around you can smell the grossness.

It's true about the smell, I hate washing every other day because of it, but because I am older, it is just too fly away and dry if I do it everyday at this point. UGH

Across the ages, people have never washed their hair every day. Or their bodies. Your hair won't stink if you wash it once every few days, but you do have to let your body adjust to that new routine.

In our modern society, people do need to watch out for stink in armpits, groin and feet areas, so a daily shower is the standard for the developed world. But again, no need for frequent scrubs and peels, which then necessitate oil/lotion/cream applications! You do realize you're a victim of marketing here, right? You don't need that hamster wheel of products.

Less is more.

That's compete BS
I don't want to smell like SCALP.

It’s possible to rinse your hair after workout without shampoo. When it’s wash day the scalp is massaged too. It’s not stinky after a few days and if/when it is the schedule is adjusted.

A natural bristle brush helps

I can smell dirty hair. It usually starts smelling on the third day after washing it. It smells bad.

Not new, this has been going on since at least college--I graduated 12 years ago. I've never been able to go long between washes but have known people who can and their hair looks and smells fine.

Some of you are weirdly obsessed with the scent of a body's natural sweat and oils. I shower daily and use deodorant but I have never been at all phased by the idea that some people wash their hair every few days instead of daily and I don't go around smelling other people's hair. Generally the only time I really notice someone else's smell is if they are wearing a lot of perfume or have a strong body odor smell (like someone who clearly has not showered in days). Beyond that I think I've just trained myself not to notice anything else. Otherwise you are just making your own life unpleasant becasue some people naturally sweat more than others. Or you have people who spend a lot of time working outside. Like I am sure that on days when I take my kids to the playground or run errands on foot in teh summer time I smell sweatier than the average person. And my hair probably smells of "scalp" as I'm jus sweating more. But the idea that ths would be upsetting enough to make complain if they encountered me at the grocery store or at a happy hour before I've had a chance to shower is silly.

It's like people who drive themselves crazy caring about what other people wear or whether women have bra straps that show or if someone has tattoos or wears a lot of makeup or something. Just let it go.

I guess some people are no phased that we think they stink.

Do you think dry shampoo makes the smell of sweaty, post-workout hair go away?

Omg. I see 20 somethings doing this in the gym locker room regularly. Gross. Just wash your hair

Yep, I see this too and it’s so foul to me!

I don't think I've ever washed my hair daily. I have blonde hair (+ highlights) and it's slightly wavy. It is far too dry to wash every day, and would take waaaay too long to dry. I do a nice blowout and it takes about an hour. No way I'm doing that every day.

But you should be fazed by your poor understanding of homophones.

Hey, at least they didn’t say “sike”.

It’s just a divide between people who have fine limp hair and everyone else. If you have basically baby hair, like I do, then it looks horrible if I don’t wash every day. I wish I had thick curly hair and could stretch out the time between washing!

It's really not. I use Oribe dry shampoo and it smells amazing.
