What is everyone reading for June?

I'm reading Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson - enjoying it and learning a lot.
And I'm reading Clear by Carys Davies which is quiet and beautifully written.

Finally got back to The Fox Wife by Yansze Choo. Started it months ago and lost interest, but I am enjoying it much more this time around. Feels like a book I just need to be in the right mindset for, and I’m glad I gave it another shot.

Just finished listening to "Grace after Henry by Eithne Shortall.
It is set in Ireland, with an Irish narrator. Grace and Henry are a long-term couple. Henry was 33 when he died in a biking accident. A few months after he died, a handyman shows up at Grace's home to fix the boiler (I assume a boiler means hot water heater). He looks just like Henry. It turns out Henry and his twin brother Andy had both been adopted at birth, to different families. Henry never knew he had been adopted. Andy always knew, and had traveled to the town where he was born to try to figure out the circumstances of his birth.

I thought the book was very good. Better than I had expected.
I downloaded it from my library.

Just finished this. Curious what others thought. I was quite thrown off by the end— the last 5-6 pages especially.

I read this as an ARC last year and was totally charmed by it! It made me go read her earlier books (which have a similar whimsical/magical realism bent). I agree you need to be in a certain mindset though!

What are you reading this month? The Ruby in Her Navel
What is it about? Historical fiction: Sicily in the 1200s (Crusades era)
What did you think about it? The writing is pretty good, but the main character is a pretty shitty dude who faces 0 consequences for his bad actions and he lives happily ever after.
Why did you pick that particular book to read? I usually like historical fiction.
How did you acquire the book? Next door neighbor’s little free library.

The Hunter, by Tana French
It's a mystery/police novel set in Ireland. It follows with characters created in The Searcher by the same author. Small town politics, teen angst, outsider/ insider stuff.
I liked it less than The Searcher, and as soon as I realized what the plot was going to hinge on (and I thought it wasn't plausible) I was disappointed. Every otgebook by Tana French has been five stars for me-this was just four. Still great, but disappointing bc of my high expectations.
I read every y Tana French book, that's why I hose it.
Bought it new hardcover in an independent bookstore in Chicago.

I just started on The Searcher. I’ve only read one of French’s other books, Broken Harbor, which I really enjoyed.. partially because I’ve spent a fair amount of time in studying and traveling in western Ireland, where the “ghost estates” were a real and noticeable issue (not sure if they still are, that was 15+ years ago). So I really could place the scenery in that book.

So far so good with The Searcher.

Try In the Woods and The Secret Place next - I think those were my favorites, but honestly they are all SO GOOD!

love Tana French. have you seen the Dublin Murders series?
