It was garbage.

You make yourself sound worse with every post. I cannot believe you actually wrote this - if your DD is anything like you, that surely came across in her application and interview. And that would not have helped.

+1. I’m an GU alumni interviewer. Just to correct the record factually, interviews are assigned at random based on where you live. There was no “woke conspiracy” against your daughter. I’m a minority and have interviewed many prospective students, from both similar and dissimilar backgrounds, and a student’s different background or accomplishments have never impacted my interview report. You are gross, and if your daughter is anything like you, I applaud the GU admissions office.

I’m sure your fair and not prejudiced but I know a GU alum in DC who is an admissions interviewer and I could completely see her rejecting someone’s kid just because she doesn’t like the parent.

They won't get a penny ever again. The grandparent that taught there is literally writing them out of their will today. It was a six figure donation. It's the internet so no one will believe me. Reaction from my undergrad friends is bad, bad, bad. I had kids first in the group and we all assumed she was a shoe in.

What’s a shoe in?

A shoo-in is an idiomatic expression used to describe something or someone that is almost certain to succeed or win. It implies that the outcome is practically guaranteed, as if it were already decided. For example, if a highly skilled athlete competes against much less experienced opponents, we might say that victory for the athlete is a “shoo-in.” It’s like saying, “No doubt about it!”

You see nothing - bc alum interviewers reject no one.

A six figure donation at some future point when it can be withdrawn at any time (like now) wasn’t getting your kid in, as you now know. Your friends (and you were wrong). Your kid wasn’t a shoo in.

- another legacy and related to a long time professor kid in this house was also rejected - it is what it is. We aren’t changing wills, claiming interviewer issues or anything else.

I am an alumni admissions interviewer and you are kidding yourself if you think the interview all that substantially matters. You also have no idea what the interviewer wrote or did not write. Most interviewers genuinely really want to see the kids they meet admitted but at 12% admissions you meet a ton of truly amazing students who are not.

Disgruntled mom has two options to accept:

- kid didn’t get in on own merits

Or

- kid would have gotten in but for interviewer and no legacy bump

She cannot accept the first one so no one will convince her that it’s anything but 2.

I’m glad to see all the alumni posters who are standing up against the views of that one poster and saying that’s it’s not representative of other students. We are so thankful in this household to get the admission, it was truly a dream.

The interviewer can of course tip the scale one way or the other. Surely you can agree to that.

Why is there no merit aid at Georgetown?!

Did your child apply EA or RD? A strong applicant with alumni ties who is serious about the school should probably apply EA. Applying RD implies it is not your first choice.

this is also not true.. GU EA doesn't take legacy into consideration, it's acceptance rate is generally lower.

Only need based - hard to give merit if the pool is super strong. Those people may not even attend GU as they may have other options.

You re giving the alumni interviewers way too much power. They do not admit nor reject anyone. They are mostly there to answer questions.
