One Day on Netflix… bingeworthy

It’s a stupid series but he’s a good actor

She admits she’s weird looking. She literally is wonky and can’t close her eyes all the way. She’s objectively not attractive

Yes, he is brilliant in this. Some of the best acting I've ever seen.

This. Emma in the series didn't show anything that would make his attraction to her make sense. She was unattractive, whiny, humorless, and aimless. Anne Hathaway did a much better job in this role. I will say that the series did get better after the first couple episodes. The actor who played Dex knocked it out of the park.

The actress who played Tilly did a great job. She was bubbly, fun, sensual. It was easy to see how a guy could be really attracted to Tilly. Looks don't have to be even, but generally there's something else like personality, money, accomplishments, responsibility, or *something* that makes the hot, wealthy person fall for the much less attractive one.

I think some of this may be a British vs. an American sensibility. Emma is sharp and witty, and that seems to count for more in British circles than American circles. She's not conventionally attractive, but she's not ugly, either, and an attraction to someone who's not conventionally attractive is what makes Dex more interesting as well. If he's just falling for a beauty, he seems more vapid (and he first hooks up with Sylvie, who is quite gorgeous, when he's still clubbing and living a posher, more debauched, life).

But that’s it; Emma is sharp and dour, she’s not witty at all. Sylvie is witty, Emma’s observations are the language’s equivalent of clubbing baby seals. She’s insufferable and not good looking. You really have to be good looking to be this painful

+1 We could believe that the unattractive girl with the great personality gets the guy. But that's not what happened.

It was hard to watch. That kid saved the series.

Trouble with Ambika is her range: she plays one character. Self-righteous, dour, with the energy of a ball of uranium. Luckily lots of dour Northern dramas in the UK. Just keep her out of my romcoms, ruined it for me.

And I hated Anne Hathaway who looks like My
Little Pony and had high hopes for the reissue on Netflix

They are just physically a huge mismatch plus she’s not that smart - she’s bookish, sarcastic and just massively annoying because she’s so defensive. Had they cast a pretty Indian girl with an ounce of charm it would have been far more enjoyable

Agree. There is no real chemistry between them to believe they have some deep connection. She is rude and judgmental and he is vapid. I just got through episode 10 and still don’t believe them as a great love story.

I like both the actors! In interviews the actress who plays Emma is so sharp and smart. agree her character is negative a lot but overall it’s a fun light watch. I still have a few eps left.

Emma is dour and always has a look of distain. Ugh

Couldn’t stand Emma. Not believable at all. He carried the show. Wow.

Would be interesting to know who else auditioned for the leads, though I guess we’ll never know.

I tend to think that with Ambika Mod and just about any other actor this show would get minor buzz. Leo Woodall is what made it memorable despite the cheese.

Agree! A guy that classically good - looking would never go for a girl like Emma with her mustache, big nose and big teeth.

First, she is uniquely pretty. Second, he had tons of pretty and enhanced posh dolls, that's why he found her so appealing.

Then blame writing and directing, not actors.

It’s the casting

I happen to think she’s attractive. But whatever you think of her looks, you have to admit she has a rocking bod. I know two objectively gorgeous and successful guys, one of them my cousin, who went with the body over the face, which sounds really mean as I say it, but it happens.

I’m assuming that’s directed at Ambika Mod, whom a few posters here seem to really dislike, because overall the casting is very strong and it’s a star turn for Leo Woodall.
