The previous poster only referenced full-pay families. They made no reference to race. |
That is the blandest statement possible. They are a competitive admission school, so very limited neurodiverse kids in their diversity. Upper school tuition is 47k and the majority of students receive no aid. If your idea of DEI is a bunch of UMC and rich neurotypical kids, then SR practices what they preach |
Exactly! And it is also racist and misguided to assume that all black families love DEI, and that all white families are sick of it. In fact, there are a lot of sensible blacks who think it is ridiculous, and then a lot of virtue signaling whites who worship at the DEI altar. But it is probably a valid observation that plenty of full paying families of ALL races would want them to de-emphasize DEI, or better yet let let it go altogether. |
This is up there with "woke" in the pantheon of dog whistles. |

It calls into question the structures that we benefitted from. It challenges our ideas that each of us pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps and are self-made. That we *EARNED* and deserve our wealthāand in turn, those who donāt have wealth are poor because they didnāt work hard enough.
This isnāt progressive or in your face. Itās what non-white folks have lived and known for decades. Centuries. This is not a country where white people just happen to own most of the wealth. That is by design. Please look at your own internalized racism and classism. We all were taught that growing up. Itās critical for our kids and our communities that we unlearn it. Start with the book White Fragility, if a white author makes you most comfortable. Showing Up for Racial Justice is a white-led organization where you can be open with the feelings you have as you untangle all of this. |
I would send my daughter to Upstairs Hollywood School of Performative Wokeness, probably. They have a great program in how to craft yard signs with catchy slogans, will instill a sense of perpetual grievance, and will definitely help teach her to advocate for progressive criminal justice reforms in DC that seem altruistic, actually exacerbate crime. |

No. That would be Donald J. Trump. Don't forget to buy his gold sneakers! |
| The OP seems to have a dogged agenda determined to critique, undermine and sour the reputation of the new HoS at Holton. I find it strange that one thread that has gone on for weeks wasn't enough. Instead, to now start a new one with a thinly veiled subtext appears more like a personal vendetta than a legitimate attempt at information gathering. As a new family at Holton - with perhaps no institutional knowledge of how things "used to be" - we've seen our daughter integrate seamlessly, be challenged academically and enjoy all of the fantastic school traditions. But perhaps more important is that she has befriended girls of every color, religion, culture and background. It's clear that the school fosters, on the daily, an environment of inclusion, mutual respect and openness. Why can't we adults simply respect the organic nature of diversity. And understand that sometimes change at the top isn't a bad thing. |
HA communications to the rescue!!! |
NCS for sure. Ask admissions to speak with current families. |
I see this also at Stone Ridge. When I've volunteered in the lunch room, I see the girls interact with each other without any regards to race, ethnicity, class, or religion. It seems to come naturally. SR teaches the girls to welcome others and love as Jesus did. I like that SR is progressive, but DEI is going overboard, even at SR. As a Catholic family who chose SR for the religious aspect, I hope that SR continues to put Catholic teachings as a priority above everything else. |
That culture you appreciate now took time, dedication, and skill to cultivate. The Holton of the 80s was not this place. While there will hopefully not be drastic change, you have to acknowledge that if faculty are undermined and unsupported and students' needs are not addressed, then the culture you love will change. |
