Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Yes, read her public testimonies to the county council and planning board. It’s not so much that she’s pro-developer — I am pro developer — but that she supported bills that cut school construction money and funneled that money to developers. That’s a bridge too far for me and makes her look like a gullible mark. I’m sure she’ll raise a lot of money (relative to the usual fundraising by school board candidates) from development interests. She also remains influential in an organization that just endorsed McKnight. |
People, please link to specific testimonies if you are making claims that someone said this or that. |

| Just a reminder that how this works is there have to be three or more declared candidates in each race in order for that seat to be on the ballot in the May primary. Otherwise if only one or two candidates have filed, they will automatically advance to the general election in November. |
Half the time she looks sleepy and disorganized. |
I’ve been impressed with Laura in my interactions with her through MCCPTA. And it is absolutely no question when compared with Evans. -DP |
Is she still heavily involved in MCCPTA? Would be curious to hear her reaction to MCCPTA’s public statements in support of McKnight in the last couple weeks during this workplace harassment and bullying fiasco. |
Yes, she is. Laura Stewart is basically an incumbent. |
| Laura would be a great Board member. She is active and involved, will call MCPS out on their bullsh*t, and, knows where the bodies are buried. I used to work with her on MCCPTA stuff, but my kids have been out of MCPS for a while now. She will definitely have my vote! |
If she knows where the bodies are buried, why hasn’t she been more vocal about cleaning things up? She is an insider’s insider and more of the same. |
This. I've met Stewart through MCCPTA stuff, including advocating for inclusion of LGBTQ+ inclusive materials in libraries, which I support. What I can't support, though, is someone holding their tongue until they see which way the political winds are blowing. The Beidelman fiasco is a clear example of abuse of power, indicative of a toxic workplace culture at MCPS that is driving away staff and administrators. Unfortunately, I worry that Stewart is too caught up in whether it's "appropriate" for a white woman to call for a Black woman's termination, even when that Black woman has enormous power and benefactors. Basically, she's a little too Nice White Lady and not enough Speaking Truth to Power for my tastes. |
This is the official statement MCCPTA put out. It's just very meh - certainly not supportive of McKnight. "The MCCPTA Executive Committee is concerned about ongoing issues involving MCPS and the Board of Education, as recently reported in the media. We continue to urge system-wide accountability and transparency, including prompt disclosure and resolution of these issues so that everyone can focus their attention on ensuring a safe working environment for teachers and staff and the best possible learning environment for students." |
It echoed McKnight’s complaints about transparency and disclosure. Definitely supportive in the context in which it was issued. |
Ugh. What a pathetic statement. |

I'm a no on Laura Stewart.
' Too much of a far left zealot for me. I'd prefer at least some semblance of non partisan moderation for the school board. |
