There are millions of very accomplished people who aren't white, middle aged men. And we are far enough along that it's not even an issue. Talent is talent.

But Harvard elevated a fairly mediocre woman of color to project some kind of virtue signaling. And it hit them hard. The damage to Harvard's reputation is pretty severe. No doubt they'll bounce back - depending, of course, on who the Board selects as the next president.

We'll see how things go going forward. Think organizations - whether corporate, academic, or NGOs - are kind of sort of recognizing that elevating people simply for DEI reasons doesn't work.

Exactly.

No this is all about Israel and punishing anyone who are not sufficiently supporting Israel.

Keep on telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

They should be going after all of them. Hopefully professors who promulgate gross, left-wing nonsense will be rooted out as well.

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Cambridge, there ruled a queen named Gai who cared not for the real work of running a university - educating young minds. Nay, Queen Gai cared only for trumpeting woke platitudes and promoting social justice causes.

Queen Gai came to the throne by whining the loudest about the lack of "diversity" in the administration. The spineless regents bowed to her demands and named Gai the new president of Harvard, hoping to appease the mob. But none had actually read her nonsensical papers on "microaggressions in classroom chalk use" or "decolonizing science by rejecting objectivity of the scientific method."

As president, Queen Gai set about dismantling Harvard's once-great institutions. Departments were renamed, admissions standards lowered, and professors who dared question her edicts were sacked. Harvard's star grew dim as alumni and donors fled this new regime of woke nonsense.

The final straw came when Queen Gai announced Harvard would offer a new degree in Intersectional Feminist Dance Therapy. After discovering she plagiarized the first course by copying aboriginal tribes in Borneo via a plethora of ancient YouTube videos The regents had no choice but to relieve Queen Gai of her duties, though they lacked the courage to fire her outright.

And so Queen Gai remains at Harvard as a tenured professor, clinging to her throne in the gender studies department, convinced she is leading a new enlightenment - while all around watch in disbelief as this once august institution descends into farce.

The morale we learn, dear reader? Beware when an ideologue grasps the reins of power through which realms of sanity are diminished in the name of "progress."

The end!

Nice!

She is keeping her near million dollar salary. Give me a break. She will be paid to do even less each year.

This is a good piece explaining why the plagiarism issue is so serious (and apparently a longstanding problem at Harvard in terms of the disparity between how students and professors are treated): https://newrepublic.com/article/177814/claudine-gay-resignation-plagiarism-israel

There have also been good opeds in the NYT and WashPost on similar themes. It's deeply unfortunate that Gay's resignation will fuel more backlash against free speech and more obnoxiousness by wealthy alumni and donors. But the original sin was Harvard's board elevating someone as president who was not well qualified for the role and for failing to do basic due diligence on her. And what's really unfortunate is that there are more than a few highly qualified women and/or people of color who would have been great candidates - and some may be hesitant to throw their hat into the ring after the sh*tshow of the past few months.

White people have been stealing from Black people for hundreds of years without proper attribution. Suddenly, it's a problem?

SO its the Boards fault -not hers for plagiarizing. WOW always someone else fault.

So basically blacks can occupy positions of power provided they kowtow to Zionist interests. The pecking order is clear.

At least we can take comfort in knowing that elevating unqualified people to the top levels only happens in academia, not in the federal government (gulp).

Gay is only the tip of the iceberg. The right is going to start going after professors and administrators with whom they disagree by using software to comb through their research looking for errors and plagiarism. Buckle up.

With all these great, accomplished people to choose from, we choose serial plagiarists to be presidents of the US & Harvard, & a race-faker to be senator from NY. What a relief that our faith in our ability to choose wisely based only on merit has been rescued by the choice we made for VPOTUS. Hasta la vista, root causes!

+100 This is what it is all about. It’s all about Israel and increasing the number of Jewish students. Jewish enrollment has dramatically declined.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, a Jewish news wire service, reported in 1967 that Jewish students had reached high numbers at the Ivies after decades of low enrollments. The news outlet cited a New York Times survey at the time, which found that the student bodies at Columbia University and University of Pennsylvania were 40 percent Jewish. Jewish student populations at Harvard, Yale and Cornell were estimated to be between 20 and 25 percent, while those at Dartmouth, Princeton and Brown hovered between 13 and 20 percent.
Jews now make up 9.9 percent of Harvard’s undergraduate enrollment and 12.2 percent at Yale, according to estimates on Hillel’s website. The share of Jewish students at Columbia University is an estimated 22.3 percent. Roughly 8.8 percent of Dartmouth students, and 9.6 percent of Princeton students, are Jewish. Cornell and Brown are the only two Ivies to buck the trend of significant declines compared to the 1960s, with Jewish students making up 21.5 percent and 23.9 percent, respectively, of the enrollment.

These numbers are incredibly high considering Jews make up 2% of the US population. The people behind this(big donors) want to numbers back to historic level.

This is exposing Harvard and DEI to global ridicule.

Had to happen at some point.

Among the Ivies, Harvard is not unique in its extreme submission to the DEI / woke / CRT philosophy.

In addition, the Ivies and most other universities have moved the philosophy into hiring practices:

Hasn’t this radicalism gone too far?

Amy Goodman just had an interesting program about this, saying her thesis advisor supported her and this was a right wing campaign to discredit a black woman and silence Palestinian voices. Included a letter to the editor from former former (not most recently resigned) head of Harvard Hillel lecturing that anti Zionism and anti Netanyahu is not anti Semetic. This last bit is what troubles me: one cannot criticise Israel’s actions in this war without being accused of anti-Semitism.
