I don’t think this is accurate, at least as far as the designer items go. I shop at the one on 59th St in Manhattan, which has a decent “Runway” (designer) section and the brand tags are always still on, so you can google the style. I find that the Theory/Vince/designers of that ilk stuff is usually from a prior season but it’s “real”. I bought this today for $40: https://www.rag-bone.com/sale/womens/tops/bardot-stripe-long-sleeve-tee-WCC23ST006ST06_1.html and a couple of weeks ago these jeans for $70: https://lagence.com/products/sada-jean-vintage-white?variant=31776834289767&srsltid=AfmBOoq35JPxJEi4Kn_8r11QpTUT1GzrKgpaV85IiJYLpWyoVlHKLuI2zac |
Those items are crazy out of date and style that’s why you got them that cheap |
Rag and bone and l’agence are both brands that make either for rj maxx or have their own outlets. Rag and bone has outlets all over the place. The shirt you got was made for an outlet, sorry. |
Sigh. OK, sure. I’ll enjoy my made for outlet shirt! |
Who the hell cares? Especially for basics. The super $$ shit people buy doesn’t look any different. Clothes is clothes. |
For those who aren't on tiktok, Bethenny Frankel showed some Manolo heels she got in the "Runway" section of TJ Maxx and someone who was a sales associate at a department store told her they were fake.
Sure enough, she went and bought the same pair from the department store and compared them. The fakes were close. TJ Maxx probably didn't even know the shoes were fakes. |
If everyone in DC is such a fashion snob, then why is the populace so frumpy? |
I like TJ Maxx and I just bought a Birkin. Is it disorganized? Yes but that's kind of the fun of it. I don't buy clothing there but I have purchased: towels, pots and pans, dog toys and bedding, cleaning supplies (yes they do have them in some stores) pillows, gift bags and wrapping paper, etc. |
Ah yes, your TJ Maxx birkin bag is definitely authentic. Of course. |
Sure, TJ max looks the same as stuff at Macys and Kohls and Amazon basics and H&M. But those things also look crazy cheap. It's fine if that's your budget. I spent years picking up stuff at Filenes and TJ Maxx and Macys and H&M that had the look of higher quality stuff, and mixed nicely into my professional wardrobe. But they've all gone down so much in the last 15 years, that that's not the case anymore. You have to go one step higher - Zara, Banana Republic, JCrew. Basically, instead of spending $12.99 on a plain shirt, you have to spend $25. Still not great quality at those stores, but you can at least find things that aren't obviously super cheap. TJ Maxx stuff all looks obviously super cheap at this point. The fabrics and seaming are just in a different league. |
I did find Anthropologie Maeve and Lily Pulitzer dresses there one summer. Very cute and fit me great for $100 less than web site prices. If it’s a dupe or whatever, no biggie. I would’ve paid $60-70 dollars for a regular blah sundress but these were nice and quality was awesome. I got them for under $50. Compliments galore! |
congrats to you and your low self esteem |
Oh is that where you got yours? |
I’ve gotten decent things at TJ Maxx in Tysons but no way did you get a real Birkin at a TJ Maxx. How much did you pay for it? If you are for real I am so stressed out for you. I mean, kidding, but I think you got taken for a ride! |
DP. I don’t want to speak for PP, but my interpretation of her post is that she likes to shop at TJM and, separately, bought a Birkin (in other words, she has plenty of disposable income can afford to shop at more high-end places in she wants). Not that she got the Birkin at TJM. |
