Sometimes I walk through Marshall’s just to feel good about myself because there’s nothing in there I want to buy.

Also I end up buying sunglasses or kid clothes, does that mean I’m poor on the inside?

Marshalls, TJ Max and rosses are all glorified thrift stores. Most of the crap is on the floor, stepped on, with bullet holes and blood stains on them. No thanks.

How is that “glorified”?

Wish you felt good about yourself all the time - not just after visiting certain brick and mortar retail stores. May 2024 be a more joyful year for you and your self-esteem.

+1 Every once in a while you’ll find a great piece in the designer section.

I ran into Ross and Marshall’s recently looking for something for a young kid to wear for a one time event that I didn’t have time to online order for. And wow, it was depressing. Not even just the quality of clothes but just overflowing, disorganized racks of cheap fabric. I remember occasionally going to these stores in my 20s (so maybe 15 years ago) and maybe I am misremembering, but they seem to have really gone downhill. On this most recent visit there were cheap knock off toys, stuffed animals and clothes and shoes strewn about in the walkways, harsh overhead lighting, etc. I left feeling so overstimulated and fortunate that I don’t have to shop there. I really wish the corporations would at least try to make things a bit nicer for the people who have to buy their kids’ clothes and toys there. But obviously stock prices can’t be sacrificed so it’s just a garbage experience.

Finally! Usually DCUM raves about these stores and I never understood why.

Maybe you live or shop in a low income area. That is not the case where I shop. I bough clothes in NR last fall that were available on Nordstrom’s online.

Same.

I don't shop at these stores, mainly because I hate picking through things, but I certainly don't look down on people who do. You sound like a horrid troll.

But, no, OP, I sure don’t understand your sense of pride in assuming you’re too good for those stores.

I know someone who makes a 7 figure salary and loves Marshall’s.

I am wondering where all of you shop. Macy's and TJM seem very similar to me these days.

Okay but the pet section is the bomb at those stores.

Haha I wrote the post in jest but I love that someone on dcum comes along and says the same thing in earnest.

So do I. But I finally did a huge closet purge and the stuff I had from 10+ years ago before I started doing that was a lot nicer, so I think I may stop.

I really noticed this too. I gained weight, so bought a few things at Marshall's to fill some gaps in my wardrobe. When looking through my whole closet, the clothes look ratty/faded/poorly structured compared to my old more expensive clothing. And it's short term wear vs long term wear. Hard to describe but it very obvious when compared side by side.

You're trash on the inside and out. There. Feel better?

Since Covid, I feel as though the quality of the merchandise at the Marshalls near me has gone downhill. There are still some good buys on their website, though, if you look carefully.
