Why send the notification to everyone? I'm the parent of a Va resident applicant with 1510 SAT, 4.3 GPA and completed/taking 12 AP courses (only courses left in the school for them to take that build on previous STEM courses) with 5 x AP test 4s and 5s (none lower) including a 5 on AP Calc. Not admitted yesterday although two friends from another HS with lower SAT/ACT scores were, and now wondering what they're looking for as a STEM candidate. Just a very unpleasant surprise for all of us.

You sound entitled. Admission to any college isn't guaranteed.

You're also sucked into the false narrative that SAT/ACT scores are determining factors. They are not.

+100 Folks need to get a grip and realize VT doesn't like entitlement. That is not their culture.

I think this first round is for the students with the strongest academic stats, i.e. high GPA and high SAT or ACT. This is college after all right?

I don't think so DD applied above 1550 SAT and above 4gpa still have not heard no email no decision yet.

Are you saying you did not receive the 1st email?

I asked if those who got an email but no acceptance, if this was a soft rejejction. She said no...I admit, it was nice to hear that, but the cynical side of me still maintains judgement. I also asked if those who got acceepted were the top students, and she also said no and that it was random. (Please insert cynacism as you will). Finally, I asked will they release another 'batch' of notices. She said she does not know but if they do, it will be in the same manner that they just did. Sigh...take of this what you will.

Kind of you to post and share. Thanks. Did you happen to ask if that first email went out to all EA applicants? I think, knowing the answer to that question would be helpful.

Yes.

And why not just reject/defer/wait list?

The cutesy letter is just patronizing to the students who applied.

Those notes kill me. I've seen them from a bunch of the places my DS applied too. Seems the communication between the finance folks and the AO is crap.

Then go ahead and withdraw your kid's app.

What an odd take.

No, I didn't ask that question. My kid got an email but no acceptance. That is a good question.

Not really. If you're not impressed you can withdraw and move on.

Yeah, because if that email went out to all applicants, I have an easier time buying the assurance that anyone who didn't receive an answer at 5 is still being considered seriously. But if that email only went out to a portion of all applicants, then those of us got the email, but didn't get anything at 5 PM yesterday can probably assume we're in a not accepted pile whatever that may be, waitlisted, deferred, rejected. Has anyone reported that yesterday at five they got an answer of waitlisted or deferred? Or was it only acceptances?

Got an email. Subject line say "Larla, an update has been made to your portal"...

Is that a rejection or the financial thing?

Larla is still sleeping.

Nope. DC got in test-optional. And a 3.94 weighted GPA if you're curious.

From our small circle of FCPS seniors, I know of two girls accepted last night and neither applied to STEM.

VT does yield protect. I've read students with above 1500s SAT get rejected, because they tend to go to other schools.

Utter BS plenty of kids fit in with no score. My neice her bf and many others my neighbor.

Other forums have plenty of acceptances.

Two different things. Yes, they do accept high stats kids, and yes, they do Yield protect. If you have been reading posts here or had a high stats kid or a TJ kid or their friends apply and get waitlisted/rejected, you know they DO yield protect.
