lol. I saw this article and sent the link to my Gen X friends. I’m 43. Is this really how Gen Z folks approach life? Offended by everything and needing a safe space? What about witch costumes? The legacy of Salem an issue as well? Where is the line drawn? Where do these young weaklings sack up? It’s kind of insane. I know they’re a handful in the workplace and don’t listen to anyone. Sht they can barely write, too. Well I guess we’ll see how America fares on the world stage in 30 years when these fks are running the country. They’d prob just roll over and abandon democracy if it was the easy thing to do. |
Because the gist of the article is to shame people out of something that is essentially an on-issue. What’s next to be offended by and cancel? Where is the line? |
| My dad used to dress as a "hobo" for Halloween in 1955. |
| This era feels oddly like the stifling social climate of the 1950’s. Except in this time period, the behavioral censorship being sought is by the young. These folks in their early 20’s are having less sex, they commit less, they’re on their phones all day, they take offense to so much and see speech as having the ability to cause physical harm. It’s as if they want to insulate themselves from pain. |

I can kind of understand the idea that scars shouldn’t be part of a creepy Halloween costume because some people live with them all year long and their scars shouldn’t make them feel creepy.

Should we cancel Halloween? Is there a list of costumes that I can run by a committee to ensure they don’t in appropriately touch on cultural appropriation or now this new sensitivity to scars? What about a sexy nurse costume? Does that offend sex positive women? I’m just really scared right now and could use a few grievance counselors and a quiet room away from anyone who doesn’t share my views. |
Okay don’t be stupid. I’m just pointing out that if you think having a scar makes someone a monster freak Halloween costume then that’s kind of weird because some people have facial scars and they can’t take them off at night. You’re clearly the most sympathetic and understanding person in the world. |

Did OP miss the very clear “perspective” label on the piece?
I have no patience for people who complain about journalism when their real issue is an opinion they disagree with. |
Gen Z and Gen X have the same sarcastic opinion on the culture wars garbage - in other words we don’t play and mock those seeking to destroy all fun. |
| We are going to run out of room for safe places if this keeps up. Is there anything that isn’t offensive anymore. |
+1+1+1 EXACTLY my thought. I hadn't given it much thought and appreciate hearing this and also hearing that some folks with facial scars add glitter to make their scars pop with pride. same with birthmarks. |
